I bought Lucky Star 2 weeks ago and still haven't watched it yet. I will watch it by week's end.

I do plan on getting Baldrexe. The advertisements kinda hooked me.

Yeah, Death Note sure has it's twists and turns. I'm farther along than vol 4 courtesy of Adult Swim. Even what is transpiring now still makes me think, "Oh man, that's awesome".

I can't believe it's this late and I'm the first to post. Shocked

Seems a little weird that Sarah arranges the books in numerical order from right to left.

I really enjoyed Lucky Star. I think it's a series you either love or hate. I have to admit that if it wasn't for Konata, I might not have enjoyed it as much, but its cute. And the opening is so catchy Razz

.....If you, or anyone, recommends Baldr Force EXE Resolution to a fan of Baldr Force EXE, that said fan might kill you. There is no once who hates the anime more then the game fans....NO ONE. They fu**ed up the chraters, the story....EVERYTHING. Tohru was NOT and emo jerk in the game. He was a badass, smart-mouth, gentle guy. Damn you...whoever made the anime.

Yeah, I found the ads catchy too, actually; however, I don't plan on purchasing the series (they enouraged me to check the encyclopedia out, after which I wasn't so keen on the series).

Yes, that's what I was thinking, given the format of manga.

Yeah, I couldn't agree more. Light is colossally evil, though.

I was lead astray by the title. Why the **** was it labeled "Starship Troopers"! And Not have a single thing to do with that story?!!

Seeing that I know that in Japan, Robert Heinlein's work was made into an OVA back in 1988. I was hoping to read anything about this series and perhaps a massive apology made by the Japanese creators for making that farce. It's equal to that stupidly created embarrassment about fascists -Americans in tone alone- in space movie by everybodies favorite liberal tree hugger vorheens(sp) of Robocop fame.

On a whim, I put Baldr Force and Shattered Angels at the top of Netflix queue two weeks ago. I was kinda surprised when this past Monday Netflix said they were shipping them both, and I received them on Tuesday, the day of their release.

In Baldr Force, the rapidly exploding heads right off the bat were hard to ignore. Overall, it was a fun four episodes, could easily have used another four to give a bit more depth and actually explain things. I then looked it up and found it was based on a game, which kinda explained its brevity and lack of explanation. In the end, it was still a rental, I might pick it up in some huge discount sale where I need more stuff on the order to get me to a level to get free shipping.

On Lucky Star, I watched it, and it worked for me. I showed the first episode to one of my friends who is really picky about anime. If its not Ghibli, Kon, Bebop, or Gunslinger Girls, he pretty much has no use for it. If there was ever something I thought he would hate, it would have been Lucky Star. I was shocked when it was finished, he had liked it, and made the Seinfeld analogy. They must be doing something right. As for myself, I cant see doing the special editions for every release like I did for the first, unless I hit the lottery or something.

Yeah, I am one of those people who actually enjoyed the weird stupid dialogue in Lucky Star. I think it tries too hard to be like Azumanga Daioh (and that is just better), but this is certainly not bad.

Yanno, I think those shelves are amazing. Wonderful column as always.

The LUCKY STAR "lunchroom conversations" comment was very accurate--I thought the hyper-realistic flow and feel of the LUCKY STAR conversations made them both extremely interesting and extremely boring at the same time. If it wasn't for "Lucky Channel" I think I would have dropped the show. The karaoke EDs were funny for a few episodes but got stale real fast.

The reason why you keep guessing what would happen next in Death Note is because it is indeed unpredictable while the author (mistakenly) tries to make us believe that one can predict opponents actions given one is smart enough. What one can do is just predict the probabilities (not necessarily uniquely) of opponent's actions given the opponent is very rational.

I would imagine that unless the author has background in mathematics (including some comp. sci.), evolutionary biology or microeconomics he isn't familiar with a field of game theory that, among other things, can be used to analyse interaction between L and Kira. The sad bit is that even with modest knowledge of game theory one can show that the premise of "super smart Kira and Light outdoing everyone and anticipating each others steps" is nonsensical because of things like multiple or mixed strategy equilibria.

Let's see here, there are a couple of Anime DVDs I been looking into lately and it just so happens that I have one of them. I own Shuffle Vol. 3 and I'm happy to see it is now in the Rental section. I do agree that the first two volumes didn't have much of a storyline, but I am a firm believer that the story is going to get better from here on in. Man, the DVD ended with a cliffhanger that is driving me nuts (I've seen too many cliffhangers lately, darn all those crime dramas). I need Vol. 4 soon!

Lucky Star seems like an interesting series, I have heard a lot about it and seen the characters all over the Internet. However, I'm not interested in buying it.

Death Note, that's a great series and I have been watching every episode on Adult Swim. I'm not going to buy the show though, I'm going to hold out until the first season is released all together. Then I might consider it.

As for the collection, she got a decent size one. Mine's bigger though. Anyhow, from what she has, I have Monster, Negima, and A Series of Unfortunate Series (Not a manga, but I do own those books as well). I like that Kero doll.

Even though I enjoyed the first volume myself, I belive this series was well worth the buy. However, Bamboo Dong's review successfuly had every question I have about the series myself.

Quote:
But really, that's kind of what the series is like—cute and annoying. Personally, I really enjoyed it
.

So did I, but in all fariness I did enjoy the series.

Quote:
Lucky Star may just seem like another cute-girls-with-loud-personalities love fest, but it does a lot to poke fun at a lot of genres.

Initally, I thought this series would be fest, but this series isn't as bad as I initally thought.

Quote:
There's also a segment at the end of each episode called Lucky Channel, which features a disgruntled idol and her manager. It's pretty cynical, and does a lot to make fun of the idol industry and how they're treated.

At first I liked Lucky Channel, but episode three's Lucky Channel was somewhat creepy.

Quote:
The series is basically an endless stream of dialogue spoken by chipper high school students who look like little girls.

This was the part of the review that made me extremely happy. Finally, someone else noticed this. In episode two, I remember Tsukasa even turned 17, yet she still looks like a prescholer or elementary student. I saved this for last because this was the high point of the review, for me.

Additionally, the theme song was so odd and so out there, I didn't really it the theme song. Though the English Dub was perfect, I really liked the dub most of all.

Great review, I am looking forward to next week.

What's so weird about that? They are read right to left after all.

Slightly defensive because he orders his manga the same way.

Now I'm even more excited to be getting Lucky Star Volume 1 LE soon. (It's in the mail and the mail isn't moving.) Considering how a combination of ultra social phobia and a school system convinced that talking while eating lunch was some sort of failure of public education, I never got to enjoy many lunchroom conversations. I look forward to the vicarious experience.

I had no interest in Baldr Force Exe at all but the review makes me think it might be a little interesting. Creepy little girls are probably my favorite anime staple of all time. (Hell, I love such characters in live-action too, especially when Dakota Fanning plays them. That girl was born to play creepy.)

I've been enjoying Shuffle from the beginning but I'm a harem addict. Reading Bamboo say it gets better means I'll be elevating the series even higher on my list of awesome harem anime.

Need to catch up on Death Note DVD buying. I'm following the series on [adult swim] though so it's not a priority. (Love the new "Hand of Kira.")

Based on your post time, the story didn't hit until shortly before you came through (it still wasn't there when I checked a half hour prior.)

Glad to see another "it doesn't suck" review for Lucky Star. Kinda surprised that there didn't seem to be much advance promotion for Baldr, and then upon imminent release Funi decided to make up for lost time. Still irked by the non-box status of the Death Note release even as the solicitation for singles reaches the end of season 2 (not 100% sold on season 3 while watching via AS.) Heartened that Bamboo is agreeing with everyone who said "it get's better" about Shuffle, as that should keep it planted in the maybe pile for when their next semi-annual cycle hits.

*sigh* Hopefully, I can finish the inventory project before summer so I can spend time actually WATCHING things ... and of course getting the shelf submission in.

Loved the reviews and shelves as always.

There always seems to be a lot of love/hate for Lucky Star. I guess a lot of it comes into play about how much a given person can relate to it or maybe it's just based on how much of a geek you really are. Like Bamboo, I really enjoyed the first disk and am awaiting for the others to be released as well.

I had originally completely dismissed buying Shuffle, as I'm not a big fan of harems even though i own a fair share of them. The review has at least peeked my interest, so once the series is fully released I may pick it up based on this review. The same could be said about Death Note in my case.

I got out of the habit of buying a series that are not fully released, since i now own several series that are unfinished due to a certain companies demise. I know a good number of people who practice a similar buying practice now for the same reasons.
