Cool! This is a great story and very heart-warming. I still tear up a little when I watch the end of "Mata Aimashou". I love it so much I imported the DVDs for it!

I'll agree that this movie may seem the type of movie that is heartwarming and plesent to watch, but truth be told, I didn't think so. The main male character's biggest problem in life is confessing his love to his girlfriend, likewise with the main female character biggest problem is confessing her love to her boyfriends. Which makes this story somewhat dull and somewhat confusing. Confusing because the main male character gives a pig to his soon to be girlfriend and thinks this will be a great way to "show" his love. Probably women like this type of show more then men, but that is just a guess. |

Completely disagree. I'm male and I LOVE Tokyo Marble Chocolate. I'm not the biggest shojo fan in the world either. I love me some action and violence, but yet I still have a soft spot for romance (obviously). I'm so happy to see TMC win an award. 
Besides, Yuudai giving Chizuru a spoiler[mini donkey was a foul-up by the pet store in the first place. He meant to give her a rabbit. Giving a gift is a great way to show affection, it just got screwed-up is all.] From what you've said, though, it sounds like you may have only seen the episode from Chizuru's perspective. If that's the case, I completely understand why you were confused. I was also confused after watching that episode. You have to understand that it was essentially only half of the story. The episode from Yuudai's perspective--which should never, ever be watched before the "girl part" for the sake of the story's impact--is vital. |

If one really wanted to see a excellent romancee anime though, I am sure Ah My Goddess or Aoi Yori Yoshi would be a better choice, in my opion. I don't want to make anyone offended, but I really don't like shojo at all. I saw both the parts actually and did not like either one of them. The main character makes a big ordeal that is actually not a big deal after all, as well as the main female character. I do enjoy some romance series, but a very select few. Any shojo series will never be one of them though. Though I am not saying this is a bad movie, I am just saying I didn't like the movie. As said earlier, maybe these kinds of movies are popular more with women then men. |

IMO, Tokyo Marble Chocolate is more of a proof of concept than anything.
As a released work, there's little to admire. The story is trivial and superficial, which is detrimental to any romance movie/show. Consequently, the only notable hook is the presentation of two perspectives on the same set of events. Tokyo Marble Chocolate successfully shows the kind of storytelling that can be potentially done with this format, which is possibly its main purpose. |

I'm confused... Since when is Tokyo Marble Chocolate a shoujo anime? It's just supposed to be a unique slice-of-life adventure about two very relatable people with real insecurities told in a unique fashion. If you can't get into it, you're probably a robot or haven't experienced many relationships/break-ups ^^; -Tofu |

I only said this series was shojo because that is what others have said. So what if I don't like Tokyo Marble Chocolate, at least I am not rude to those who do like this movie. |

Oh man, you imported?! I'm sooo jealous! I'm going to be stubborn and wait for a license. "Mata Aimashou" is definitely my favorite of the two songs, too. It got me back into that sort of R&B-style J-pop. 
The story was supposed to portray a relationship from both sides in a realistic manner. Of course there are always exceptions to the types of people being portrayed, but I felt that it accomplished what it set out to do. Both episodes portrayed the same story realistically taking the two leads into consideration. They represent people who have trouble with relationships, so of course they're going to have a harder time than others and make things out into a "big deal." I could relate more with the girl obviously, but it seemed as though the guy was weak and unreliable till the end. But the guy's side made the girl seem kind of scary, which affected me a lot as well. And as Jedi General already said, he meant to give her a bunny and the donkey (not a pig) was the fault of the store owners. Mini Donkey was a great character, too. 
Ah! My Goddess and Ai Yori Aoshi are more generic and unrealistic (and generally aimed at males), but I can't argue against your opinion that they are or are not any more "excellent" than Tokyo Marble Chocolate. I can only argue that I personally enjoyed TMC more, though I don't think it has anything to do with the fact that I'm a girl. I'm glad it won the award and feel that it deserved it. Another reason you may have assumed it was a shoujo might have to do with the fact that the characters were designed by a shoujo manga artist, and the color design was softer like most shoujo. But is indeed meant to be aimed at both males and females. |

Being an animation fan, I glad that Koji Yamamura and Shojiro Nishimi got attention. I still want to see Yamamura's "Country Doctor". I've seen Nishimi's "Magnetic UFO" from Youtube, and I consider it as hidden treasures which most people won't bother to notice. For other films, "Lost Utopia" sounds fascinating, considering the number of sheets used for animation. For "Boneheads", I'm curious to see what kind of design aesthetic that Japanese director adopted.
