Seems that Shonen Jump is trying to make as much money off a popular manga as possible. I would buy it if it had more stuff, but a lack of extras doesn't warrant $20 for a manga that is $10 in paperback.

I saw this over at Borders a few weeks ago, and I have to agree with the notion that it isn't worth re-buying if you already own the paperback edition. If the whole book was in color and not just a few pages, then I would definitely pick it up. I'll be picking up the Naruto hardcover one though, because I don't the paperback edition of vol. 1.

I was comparing the art style of the 1st volume of Bleach and the 22nd a few days ago, and it's nice to see the differences in how Tite's style has changed and gotten better over the series. Especially with the faces.

Great job with the review. The sparse differences from the copy I already own make me think I'd be better spending my money on something else, though.

I was hoping that maybe they would fix some dialog or add some swearing like the dub has, but I guess they are gonna keep it at its T rating.

I hope when the Naruto and Yu-Gi-Oh! collector's Editions come out, they use the original uncut release versions (no art censors and swearing censors) that were originally released, and not the re-released edited dialog and art, but I highly doubt they will. Crying or Very sad

I hope they release the rest of the series in hardcover too. Cause if they do I'll certainly buy them all unless midway through a scene in a later volume gets heavily edited.

I was planing on buying this because I heard it had all the color pages, but when I saw it it only had about the first 4 pages in color. I don't think it's worth $20, but maybe if there were a good deal more of color pages I'd consider it.

Which is ironic, because the anime has a T rating. Don't know what's with this double standard Viz Media has with including swearing on their anime dubs, but not on some of their manga. Though, they don't inlcude swearing on all of their anime; heck, they don't even release uncut versions for every anime they have. They're just a very inconsistent company throughout.

It is even funnier because Naruto's Uncut DVDs are T+ and have far less swearing than Bleach (Though anymore they curse like every other word) as well as less violence and sexual comments. Maybe it has to do with it being 12 year olds instead of 15 year olds doing the killing or something

You are right, no real consistency in the anime ratings

Meh, as long as the T+ manga is not butchered for children I have no beefs with them (I am aware of some censorship, but nothing even remotely relevant)

I don't quite understand Viz' rating system. Naruto boxsets 1-4 were rated Teen, but 5 and beyond are rated "Older Teen".

Based on what? By that point, the story does have elements that firmly put in the "Teen" category, but "Older Teen" seems a little extreme. Now, once Shippuden starts, I can sorta understand an "Older Teen" rating (spoiler[Sai's jokes, Hidan getting beheaded, the Sasuke/Sai jutsu that Konohamaru does, etc.], but I think all of Part 1 should be "Teen" rated.

I think that they rate the Naruto box sets "T+" so as to scare off any unaware parent. Viz releases the edited version with a rating of "T", so when they release the box sets, they also have the same rating. This will probably make a parent think that they're the same thing (even though it says "uncut" on the front of the box, they probably don't even know how uncut it is), so they'll want to buy the box sets to save money. Viz probably relealized this and decided to upgrade the rating to "T+" to avoid any parents complaining.

This is all hypothetical, of course. Anime hyper

But even though the Naruto box sets have less frequent swearing, they feature some stronger language than the Bleach dub. And even though there's less overall violence in Bleach, I'd say there are more disturbing scenes in Naruto. And Jiraiya puts an end to that sexual comments discussion. Wink
