Fwiw, I'd probably give my left nut to have coffee with Satoshi Kon. And I don't even drink coffee.

But yes, there is no justice in the world.

/I'd also pay to dine with Peach-Pit provided I could throw things at them.

honestly, first? i definitely hope not.

haha, i love the last panel. never been to a con before, but somehow i wasn't exactly surprised. i don't know why...

oh anime fandom these days. really, if i had to choose who to meet between Satoshi Kon and Aya Hirano (for example. i don't know many voice actor names), i'd choose Kon every time.

It's the language barrier, I think. Not to mention the fact that the job of voice acting is seen as more interesting than, say, associate producer or storyboard artist.

I'd choose Kon too.

If it was Kon from Bleach! Laughing

Does this imply that American VAs are more popular than anime staff from Japan?

you fail.

...unless you can find a Kon plushie that actually talks and has a conscience. that's another story. talking to a talking plushie beats meeting Satoshi Kon any day!

I'd just be happy if I could meet and possibly get authographs from just the English voice actors. Luci Christin, Greg Ares, Wendy Lee, or even Johnny Bosh.

Though if I had the opportunity to meet Johnny Bosh, I'd be extremely tempeted to say "Its morphing time". If anyone actually understands why, then they deserve praise.

Though Yuna Kagesaki, Rumiko Takahashi or Yoshi Takamono would also be nice.

Haha! Jerry's back! Laughing

But yeah, I definitely think the language barrier is a big part. Even when you're comparing English and Japanese VAs, the the difference isn't as great because you've actually heard their voices. Creators aren't as visible as the actors.

Then there's a component of intimidation as well -- in my opinion, at least. I mean in theory I'd rather have coffee with somebody like Satoshi Kon, too, but what kind of conversation can you offer to somebody like that? Shocked

i think that's probably only the case with American audiences who more often watch the English dubs on TV.

then again, i could name just as many Japanese voice actors as i could American voice actors, about a couple each. and i know about a half dozen directors. so i'm not much of a good example.

Rather true, but I guess it depends on the popularity of a creator/his or her work state side. Funny thing is, even if a person's famous it doesn't garner instant recognition or excitement. I was in the same elevator as Aya Hirano at AX '06, and though I thought it might be her given the number of escorting con ops, I didn't feel a tingle down my spine or anything. Though my friends would beg to differ. :p

I think its just because they can get the american VA's easier than the original artists since we see VA's more.
*pauses for a moment*
Wait...did they say anything about UMD getting an Hi-Def release at that convention?

In America, yes I would assume so.

And that too.

As for me, I wouldn't get all hyped up to see someone like that, I probably just wouldn't even bother to get an autograph. Not out of disrespect, but just because I don't really need to.

Simply seeing a famous person live and in person is enough for me, I don't actually have to meet the person.

Were lines always that long anyway or what? Course, I've never been one to be at a signing session for somebody anyway, so my words may be irrelevant.
