$1.99 PER EPISODE for a rental only playable on proprietary software on a computer?

Are they nuts? Clearly not Manga's fault, as they already make those eps available for PURCHASE from itunes for an identical price.
Anyone who buys this stuff from Jaman is a fool, unless these are in HD or something. Well I know the article SAYS "high definition" but who knows what that actually means. Anything less than 720p and it's not worth it.

Not only that, but these aren't exactly new shows. If the Xam'd PS3 rentals were overpriced, then this is flat out silly.

Manga Entertainment is still alive? Forgive me for the sarcasm but even with what's going on with 'ADV' you at least hear from them. As well as every other company on the short list.

Actually, since Manga is now part of a much larger company, it's been looking like they are absolutely content to put out one or two new titles a year (Strait Jacket is coming out in a few week), market them pretty heavily outside the standard anime audience, and at the same time, know that their back catalog will *always* sell.

Hmmm...I wonder if that's a good thing relying on what they have. Well, there are titles that people want.
Thanks for that info. I had forgotten which company had bought them. They've been so quiet. Almost close to 'CPM' quiet.

I don't think they are quiet, I think they are dead. Anime smile + sweatdrop

It actually seems like Manga Entertainment is developing major distribution angles for TV and online. It could be that they are laying the foundation and developing marketing strategies with an intent to eventually start licensing and releasing more after they've firmed up their sphere of influence.

Also, aren't they partnered with Bandai to put Gurren Lagaan on Sci-Fi?

I'd welcome more licenses from them. Their DVDs are low cost and since they put pretty much everything they license on TV, I could easily check out their titles before buying.

I always thought that it was iTunes that sets the price and that the distributor either deals with the iTunes standard (animation = $1.99/episode) or goes elsewhere.

Besides, not everyone has an iPod or wants iTunes on their computer so it may be helpful for them. Just take advantage of the free deals.
