wow, the licensing on Macross F really impresses me, such a glut of items - food-related alone! Guess the American fans are really missing out here...though, Tuna bun sounds kinda gross to me ^-^;;

I am so happy that Macross is making it big in Japan. I was worried it would be just another anime, or worse be completely dismissed by the public.
This gives me hope on many fronts. First, the popularity almost assures a sequel or another series in the future (I am not counting the forthcoming movie) Second, maybe the idiots in my country (USA) will figure out it's a money maker and release it here. And third, I feel justified that my love of all things Macross (yes even Macross 7!!) is not unfounded and has been worth my devotion over the years. And lastly, all I have to say is DECULTURE!!!!!!!! |

A lot of those "idiots" in the USA know it's a bonafide money maker, but it's the folks Harmony Gold that ultimately holds the reigns on the Macross license for the States, and to my recollection, internationally as well. If they ever decide to let a distributor get a crack at it, expect it to be one expensive bidding frenzy... As for the tuna buns, who wouldn't want some funnily-shaped delicacies?  It was one of the show's less subtle aspects...

Never underestimated Japan's love for idol singers and giant robots.
Yeah, it's quite funny, I wonder if the museum realised the tuna buns were used to represent boobs on a few occasions when they agreed to sell these? Emerje |

You sound as if you didn't know that Macross was already huge. Whatever they made was going to be huge so long as it stuck to the ideas of space fighting and idol worship. Also, Macross F, 7 or Zero will never get released here, too expensive. |

As stated I am a die hard Macross fan, but after the macross 7 and Zero fiasco I was afraid of similar bad attempts at a series. I worried, unfounded, that the story would be weak and silly. It was silly, but the story was great and the animation was great too! |

Yes, totally. But I guess when you're an island country, that's natural. But I'm glad that F is doing that well. It seems like a resurgence or something - not that Macross was ever not popular. |

Funny, there actually is not all that much Macross F merchandise available, when compared to more popular series like Bleach or PoT. I really hope that they release some good figures soon! |

Seems like its doing ok, but yes. Macross has a different kind of staying power, I guess - its much older and still has modern incarnations. Bleach is much more contemporary. So I guess, that influences the marketing to some extent. That is, Bleach gets all manner of products because its a contemporary show thats grabbing "everyone" in Japan and the US. Macross F is a modern incarnation of an older series. So I guess, however popular it may be is tempered by that fact, and it can't probably garner the level of merchandising success to warrant such product like Bleach can and does. Though, I have no idea really - thats just my guess. I'm sure that this is a sign of a rise in popularity of Macross F. You'll have to help me out though, whats PoT supposed to stand for? |

Yes, that seems to be the case. Especially given that they keep releasing new toys featuring original Macross mechs. Mari Iijima was awesome in concert at ACEN, by the way ^-^, speaking of the music.
I figured as much but seeing Prince of Tennis and Bleach in the same sentence threw me - I didn't think Prince of Tennis had the draw that it once had - leastaways, not comparable to Bleach's - not that I'm any manner of expert. |
