Yeah, the movie was a little longer than it really needed to be. The first half tried a bit too hard with character development with a lot of boring and cheesy interaction. The second half when they finally got to the island and the action started to pick up was much more entertaining. Could have been a decent movie if it wasn't for the slow start, it ended up being only half decent and the worst movie of the franchise IMO.

Definitely a stinker, but I thought the first Naruto Shippuuden movie was even worse yet (pretty much was the final nail in the coffin for me to give up the Naruto series).

Actually, the movies are accurate in that sense. The five major nations have pretty much a monopoly on the ninja/war trade. The weaker villages hire these ninjas via missions for military assistance. Sure, they could stand up for themselves, but they'd most likely lose. If you actually look at the series as a whole, it really doesn't show an optimistic look at the "underdog" group of people. The strong, blessed, and cunning prosper, and those who can't keep up suffer. The series will subvert this every now and then (it is supposed to be a kids' series, after all, even if Part 2 is pushing it in that sense), but generally if you're not already in power, things aren't looking good for you.

Look at the climax at the Zabuza arc for example. Gato didn't send his small army of thugs against them until after Naruto and Kakashi was exhausted, and spoiler[Sasuke was "dead" and Haku was dead]. Unless you have ninja training, you're really worthless in a fight against them. The villagers then show up to scare the army away, but they wouldn't have stood a chance against Zabuza and Haku, hence why Tazuna approached Konoha for assistance in the first place. The villages who possess the secrets to shinobi arts, clans with kekkai genkai (I'm sure I misspelled that), etc. will always be ahead of the weak ones.

oh please Rolling Eyes if you're going to give up on the series let it be based on the actual series content not a high budget extra long filler.

No ones forcing you to watch these movies nor would it hinder your ability to watch the series if you skip them. Unfortunately as it is, the Japanese have learned they can continue to recycle the same plot in every naruto movie and still turn out a fairly high profit. Until that changes (which it most likely won't) they will continue to turn out virtually the same movie over and over again for as many movies as they care to make.

Was this 3rd movie good? No not really, but I was moderately entertained and it didn't bore me to sleep like the 2nd movie. As for the story, at this point I don't expect anything close to masterpiece as long as I'm able to stay conscious through it I won't expect anything more.

I said it was the FINAL nail in the coffin - trust me, there are plenty of other nails/reasons why I ultimately gave up on Naruto.
(and yes, a lot of them were based on "actual series content" Rolling Eyes )

Shocked *Blink* *Blink* You should write an article about that.

Anywho, that does seem to be the sad truth to the whole Naruto concept. And even if you are cunning, powerful, and determined, the Naruto Universe states by law that if you can defend yourself, you must have some mild form of a tragic past/childhood trauma. Always. Example: Naruto can heal himself pretty darn well, and has unlimited chakra. See horrible childhood. Gaara has super powerful shifting sands. See tragic childhood. Sasuke has his Sharingan trick. Look up "Itachi". Do you see a pattern forming here? Sakura seems to be pretty darn useless until Shippuuden, and she still has two alive parents (Which are never seen) and has only ever been teased about her "wide forehead" (Blame Kishimoto). No tragedy, no power I suppose. Don't even get me started on Haku.

Back to the movie subject. This time, the background can't save it's skin like Stone of Gelel, so nothing can really compensate it there. It looks like their outfit design is slightly different... Now let's see some character development, hm? Oh wait, this is a movie, so of course it doesn't have character development. Whoops. Silly me. The money could be spent on improving the fillers (Too late), but they have to give something to the over spending fans. At least it was better the the OAV... *Shudder*

I liked it. And yes, I did watch all 100+ filler eps of the series.

But the second one sucked and Shippuuden...I've seen it, but I obviously don't remember it. Naruto is coming out like the Star Trek movies; every other one is a keeper, but their run is over when they hit their Nemesis.

Quality of story. Just because its filler doesn't mean you can't tell a good story with the characters, I have major problem with most shounen movies because of this. One Piece is the only anime that really does the whole "movie" thing well(when they aren't re-doing story arcs). Movie 6 being a prime example of a great movie which is essentially a filler episode.

Argh I missed the entire subplot with the prince.

There was bit at the end there after the prince lost a few pounds he spoke about Hikari's mother. What happened there exactly?
