So there is an official legal way to watch Kaiji now? Awesome! Very Happy

Kaiji is a great series.

Kaiji, eh? That's interesting. Again, too bad it's a stream.

I don't like this. Most of these new legal methods are US only. While I'm all for taking down the fansubbers, if it becomes US only then all Europeans, Australians etc. are in trouble

Solution? Move to America. I mean really, who cares about the rest of the 3rd-world?

Taking down fansubbers means nothing if you can't get the show out faster than they can. In this case, they're already over a year behind.

Wouldn't this be more like taking out the middleman (R1 distributors)?

OK I'll answer my own question. Joost isn't US only (I'm accessing it from the UK), but it looks like some of their content is.

Anime-wise, the UK has the GONG channel shows, the Funimation content & some older shows like Heidi & Daddy Long-Legs from one of the Chinese stations on the site.

However it does have some Japanese channel content too from NHK (one episode of one show is anime-related), so theoretically Kaiji & Buzzer Beater might be on there too. In fact if they haven't been licenced in other forms I'd expect that to increase the chances of it not having country restrictions.

Or convince their own region's Net streaming businesses to take on anime, or start their own.

If the streaming sites are R1 companies, there's a good chance their licenses are just for R1. We can't just depend on R1 companies to serve all regions.

That is very true but last time I looked R1 is North America not just the U.S. and Kaiji is only available to our southernly neighbors. If it were truly R1 streaming one could logically assume it would be available in the great white north which it is not.
