Dear, there will be other anime conventions. You don't have to set yourself up with a child rapist.
Just call home, go to a police station, or go somewhere where adults are. Wait a few years and go with your friends and have a good time. Jim: take her home or to the police. Don't make this any worse for yourself. As for my take, wow. its sad she thought she had to go off with this man. That she "loved' him. When all his love was probably just a pedo to get at a child. Is Ikkicon even a big thing? It seems like a random place to go... |

She had to run off with a man like him just to go to a couple of conventions? I wonder if there might be some deeper psychological issues at work here, because I seriously doubt any person would be that desperate.

The current ANN blurb says she was last seen Monday morning, while the KOCO story says Tuesday morning. [edit: hmm. the KVUE story also says Monday morning. I wonder who is right. ] second: This can't be at all good for the public's opinion of anime fans. [edit] third: Of course I want to see this girl found safe and sound. However, beyond hoping and spreading the word to those I know, there isn't much I can do from up here in Michigan. I didn't think I needed to state that, but people seem to have misconstrued my not stating this as caring more about my "precious anime" more than the life of another human being. Ok who the hell allowed this idiot to go off without word or questioning of her parents for a "Safe" alternate means of transit that don't involve letting her go with someone who looks like a pedo thus making the anime fan base look stupid, and or jail bait probable

The pics are not up to date - using the up to date pics, she looks like a 30yr old stripper, and he doesnt look like a dangerous hack.
They are REALLY wanted for a series of serial robberies in the area, grand theft, and a few other nice felonies. They are a Bonnie-and-Clyde two person crime spree. The "going convention hopping" is probably nothing more than a ruse. They fled town in a U-Haul truck, looking to re-locate somewhere else. I'd check MEXICO. |

The KVUE story alluded that she normally takes the bus home from school. I don't think she was taken against her will, but went willingly with him. Of course, I can't be sure about that, but he would need her cooperation if they really ARE going to attend a number of conventions. |

Everyone be aware that I am watching this thread like a hawk and the second it descends into a bunch of really mean-spirited or nasty comments I'm going to lock it. There isn't a whole lot to say about this story anyway.

All it takes is one fourteen-year-old girl's stupidity to give fans a bad name. I hope they catch Mr. Reimer quickly, because the sooner this mess is cleaned up the sooner it will be forgotten. I don't what will happen if he actually rapes her, but it won't be good. Note that even if she consents it is still statutory rape.
Don't get me wrong, I am genuinely concerned for her safety. It's just that by the sounds of it she willingly went with him. Yes, I know that teenagers (especially of that age) are impetuous and reckless, but God forbid that FOX News runs some special report on the seedier side of Anime and Manga fandom. Yikes, that's what we call a near-doomsday scenario; Obama hasn't been in the White House long enough to get rid of 43's appointments. So yeah, for Deborah's sake as well as the wider fandom's sake, let this be resolved quickly and without incident. |

I second the idea the anime is more a ruse.
It does sound more like the starry-eyed teen who feels mom & dad treat her like a child (because she's not!!!!) & an opportunistic guy willing to play her game to get what he wants. Because look at how mature she's acting. I don't really see this as creating a bad image for anime as much as people will look at this guy as a pedo when he seems more the usual petty thief getting away with as much as he can. |

OK, every single group, race and religion has idiots and perverts. We that belong to the anime, rpg, cartoon, and "not what I like to do friday nights" group are simply more weak to hate when this comes out. I would grab this idiot and slowly kill him over a period of several days. Not because he is one of us and is a pervert, but simply because I hate perverts. The girl is only 14 years 0ld...I have 3 kids and the older is 10....they know nothing....all inocence and they know no evil....I hate this loser that took this girl.

Yikes. A fourteen year old girl going off with a forty year old man not related to her, for some sort of anime convention tour is just a messy affair, with all that it implies. I hope she's recovered before anything truly nasty happens to her.
