What the ****?

I completely agree, removing the anime styled character images in the stats screen ISN'T GOING TO MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE.

It's like Namco's decision to make a CG and Anime version of that Tales game for the DS.

I'm really getting tired of NISA and their lazy localizations. They are the worst publisher in the industry right now. I refuse to even buy any of their games new. I like the games they publish and I still buy them, but I make sure to buy them used. If they aren't willing to put any effort into the games they release, then I'm not going to give them my money.

I played Growlanser Generation when it was first released. Sense of Justice was the better of the two, but the many story and character references to the first game made me feel a bit lost while following the story. Glad to hear that they'll be releasing the first game on the PSP and hope Atlus will bother to release it in English.

So many RPG goodies from Atlus. Looking forward to playing Devil Survivor this summer, and hope we'll hear the news of releasing the original Persona in English.

I didn't see any problems with Mana Khemia... And that turned out just fine, didn't it?

Hey, that game rocked...if you were a masochist. Wink

That Doom director guy is good at lowering expectations. But yeah, that show sucked; though it's still hard to decide if it's better or worse than SF2V.

You might not have known it then, but you came very close to getting Dragon Quest V, which Enix was prepared to translate until they realized it was more profitable to put the design team to work on another Dragon Quest for Japan.

It's more like the American branch crapped out and stuck us with mediocre junk like 7th Saga, Robotrek, Brainlord, and Paladin's Quest. Rolling Eyes [Though, yeah, they're still awesome, compared to Secret of Evermore. Rolling Eyes ] The last good game from that company on that system was Actraiser 2. [Except for the last boss on Hard Mode. ] Anyway, I'm still hoping we'll get Wonder Project J and Terranigma on the VC one day. But I'm just glad I got the DQ IV remake, since they dicked me out of it on the PS1. And that rom of DQ VI had the worst translation job, so it'll be nice to finally play the real thing, too. As for V, I heard the Japanese actually didn't like the original, since the graphics didn't seem significantly different than the NES versions of the series.

Blanka's new suit: Meh, I guess it's okay if there are haters who never liked Blanka running around half-naked in shorts (but he's manly, plus he lived in a jungle for pete's sake, who needs a shirt?). It does sort of poke fun at someone being lost and then saying, "Dr. Livingston I presume?" to the other person.

Chun-li's dress: I remember that episode. In fact, that same warrior-king starred in every other show the same day on the USA channel. In Mortal Kombat, Wing Commander and even Savage Dragon. I think it was a theme.

Persona on PSP: Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU gaming gods! You do exist after all. I still have my original American version of the PS1 Persona. Despite that I hated the poor job done to it, I find myself still playing it once in a while. The English voices are actually pretty decent.

Jack Frost doll: Ah Jack Frost, the mascot of Persona. He gets much love but I think other d demons need some attention too. Still his hee ho hee ho-ing is adorable.

Devil Survivor: Bet it turns out to be more interesting than The World Ends With You.

Star Ocean the Last Hope: Oh I really hope we can switch to anime designs. I hate realistic CG crud like that.

Ar tonelico 2: As someone who is currently playing this game and is in the 3rd Phase, let me be honest about it. The plot is very snoozy in the beginning and takes several hours to take flight. Even then, it's not wholly interesting. Luca is hated by many many players and the Diving system is really too dating sim for anyone's tastes (see Ar tonelico 1). I think it's a cheap attempt to make a glitzy gimmick for increasing your singer girls' powers. About the only thing Gust ever makes interesting with their games is combat and the occasional nonhuman male ally (catgirl in Mana Khemia, real original Gust). Btw, thanks for mentioning the glitch. It's been an issue everyone talks about on GameFAQs. They told me not to worry as long as I can whoop said boss's butt in three rounds. I'm still nervous though. Two words NIS America: quality control.

Gall Force: Saw it on Sci-Fi, taped it for any future watching, heard about a game, don't know much more than that.

Tales of Hearts yeah. You were supposed to get a different bonus item depending on which version you ordered.

Ar tonelico II had the glitch, but didn't it also have a chunk of character voices scrapped?

After Rhapsody, I'm very cautious of NISA right now.

"though NIS cut many voiced lines for the U.S. version. A number of characters are now mute, and some of the game's most memorable dramatic scenes don't have any vocal accompaniment. It doesn't help that typos and awkward lines are strewn throughout.."

OUCH! Well thanks for mentioning that, I can live with a lot of things that are removed but now I know why a lot of characters in other PS2 games that were released in Japan and USA about the same time now have people talking with no words or even sound coming from their voices. Think I will wait now, had that on the wish list at ebgames was going to order it.

Once again the companies here remove the story, remove any thing that made the show whatever it was to watch and listen too and play, remove whatever spark of life that existed and give us yet another piece of crap. Thats a pretty bad bug I remember another PS2 game with a bug like that too but don't recall the name right now. (maybe Phantasy Star Universe?).

Guess that about does it. Certifies my PS2 is dead as far as getting new or any more used games for. I have no faith in the translator companies and their story destruction.

Great article on all accounts this time too thanks for the Reviews!!!!

I couldn't care less on the voices and hold onto my PS2 purely for one reason:

Mana Khemia 2.

I could sense you seething as you wrote about Ar Tornelico 2. Just reading your description was enough to make me hate the game. Well, that, PLUS some Youtube videos of the story sequences.

Im already past 50 hours into Ar Tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica. Its just that addicting. But there are ways to go past the few bugs in the game but of course that means leveling up more then you are supposed to. But I will say this Ar Tonelico II is more enjoyable then the 1st one, Melody of Elemia. I hope Ar Tonelico III will be on Playstation 3 that would be so awesome.

Seeing both a Fire Emblem game and a game involving generations/marriage choices mentioned in the same article just reminds me how much I want someone to bring Fire Emblem IV to the US, either as a remake or on the Wii Virtual Console.

Wow... so after going through the trouble of releasing both Star Ocean PSP remakes, with new animation sequences, in the US, as anime-tastic as they are, they're then going to change the 'anime' look of the newest one? How does that make any sense at all? So, what, are the games targeted at different people? Are fans of the first three not going to be buying the new one? Does S-E not want them to? I don't get this...

STOP CHANGING THE GAMES WE WANT TO LOVE THAT YOU EXPECT US TO BUY!!!

Personally, I'm a fan of the CG portraits. It just looks unfinished to me when a game uses concept art in menus and CG everywhere else. Unless, of course, the concept art is radically different from the models, as in the case of the Metal Gear games or the games that Yoshitaka Amano does the designs for, where the concept art blurs the line between commercial art and fine art. Star Ocean's art, however, does not blur that line. So here's one vote for the new CG!
