I'm sorry but... I just can't condone the viewing of Makoto Shinkai anything on Crunchyroll. I just can't.

May I ask why?

Personally, I saw this as a good opportunity to finally see 5 cm Per Second and The Place Promised in Our Early Days since I can't rent them at my local Blockbuster.

Aw. This is the saturday that I have to be held hostage by yearbook since it's the last deadline D: Darn, though I guess I'll still have some time left on saturday.

Still, I think it's good exposure.

fantastic CG + low-res crunchyroll should not mix. That's basically the simple explanation. You don't mix anything with that high of a quality of animation on a stream site that greatly shrinks the screen and resolution to pixel quality.

Already seen all 3 and own 2 of them, so I don't care too much about this. Will probably still watch 5cm per second though; best out of the lot I think, and the only one I don't own yet.

Ah, I see. I suppose I'll wait to rent it after all.

This.

At first I was "Shinkai anime for free? Great idea!"

And then it was "Shinkai anime on Crunchyroll? Not so much."

I have to ask here, does it really matter about the quality considering it is "free"?

if your going to see it free you should get up to H264

if you happen to be a subscriber it may be streamed in either 480p or 720p or both so as a subscriber doubt the quality will be a streaming issue.

but then again unless your computer has a 8800 GTX card or a high end Radeon it wouldn't make a difference how good the stream is.

and even worse is having the good GPU and a second rate monitor lol!

5 cm Per Second is out of print? There's a holiday dedicated to Makoto Shinkai?

Man, this is when I realize I need to read the news more often.

Well, I'll be happy to watch Makoto Shinkai's works again, and I still need to watch The Place Promised in Our Early Days. Plus, I've never seen anything on Crunchyroll before, so this will be a good time to see!

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but by "members", does it mean paying subscribers or the general public?

This might be OT in a way, but it's still relevant -- I was really considering the ADV 2-pack with "Voices" and "Place", but some reports have said "LOL DUB SCRIPT IS TEH SUCK" and, well, if you know me well enough you know how I feel about dubs, and etc. So...is it a total loss if you're a fan of dubs, or are the dubbed versions OK by their own merits?

EDIT:

They also have a holiday dedicated to DRAGON QUEST. A VIDEO GAME. Yeah, Japan is weird.

By the way, there is a little surprise in store for Makoto Shinkai fans who come to check out his works on Crunchyroll...

In addition to having the English-subtitled version of 5cm, we are premiering a brand-new, never before seen English dub exclusively on Crunchyroll! This dub has been specially prepared under the supervision of CoMix Wave Films and is of extremely high quality.

So even if you've seen 5cm before, be sure to check out the brand spanking-new English dub!

Cheers,

Rob

A...dub? On CR? Did the planets align, the mystical doo-dads get gathered, and the unstoppable machine that will herald Earth's doom warm up?
