It's good stuff if you like Patlabor IMO. I got it sealed for $2.50 at the flea market awhile back. Smile

What a coincidence, I first saw this at PortconMaine around the time it came out, and few years later I also met Joe Digiorgi at PCM as well, but I had no idea that was one of his projects. Nice guy, during the voice actor panels at PCM Daniel Kevin Harrison will often call Joe at home and harass him about work. Laughing

Er, anyway, I've been wanting to pick this up ever since, maybe I'll do just that next time I see it.

Love how the Masami Yuuki look-alike character is totally obsessed with porn. Shoji Kawamori is in there too and I belive the section chief is based on Yuuki's editor at Shonen Sunday. The live action clip in the middle of the OVAs maybe a poke at Patlabor's AXIA cassette tape commercial that appeared on the intial Japanese video release of the 1988 Patlabor OVA. The Mu Empire exhibit has a gold Raideen bust and a gold statue of Manda wrapped around the Gotengo (Atragon) from the 1963 movie "Atragon (Kaitei Gunkan)". Fantastic Japanese sci-fi Mu references there. There was a third Mu reference in the exixibition which I didn't pick up though. Anyone know what it was?

I bought this fo cheap awhile back, and thought it was certainly unique. Though I wasn't aware of it's pedigree. I am surprised the audtion process wasn't mentioned more. I loved the Runner-up a extremely cute girl who turned musclebound hulk with extreme straining. It is worth getting, watch for it it does have two covers one a pink style and a generic blue. whether they presses are the same I am not sure.

I went quickly to Amazon.com and saw that they only have one version of this right now. The one they have has Maron on the cover looking slightly baffled and came out in 2001. Is that the good version or the mediocre one?

Thanks! Smile

I think that's the remastered one. Personally though, I think I like the other packaging better.

Oh man, I remember reading a review about Gamefan or some other long-dead video game magazine. They hated it. A lot.
It kind of piques my interest to see this now, as you seem to really like it, and they didn't. Mayhaps it is indeed worth a shot.
Also, welcome back. Your column is always an enjoyable one, and honestly, kind of needed, as it tends to motivate newer anime fans to actually watch something that wasn't produced after the year 2000.

I remember picking the original version up the TRSI bargain bin to pad up an order for free shipping, it was decent enough.

Yeah, sometimes simple is better. If you look at the "customer image" on that Amazon page you'll see the original cover which I prefer.

This is one of those DVDs I kept meaning to toss into an order because it was cheap, and just never got around to. Perhaps I should, now that I know a lil' more about it. Very Happy

I've had this for the longest time, from VHS fansub to DVD - and I still haven't seen it!! How's that for procrastination?! Laughing

Hm, to really geek out, and buy both versions for the better cover art, or not? Maybe I will; although I'll have to look around for a copy of the first release, since Amazon doesn't ship international...

I checked their site, and it wasn't even listed from what I could tell.
