Precure averaged $9388 per screen.

Dragonball Evolution averaged $1936 per screen.

Quite a difference...

Most films make more their first week & the way this reads, this is Precure's opening week so it would be expected to make more this week than it will next week.

I've waited more than once on a film I've been iffy on seeing, & by the time I decide I want to see it, it's no longer playing. Films last about a month anymore.

Quote:
James Wong and 20th Century Fox's live-action adaptation of Akira Toriyama's Dragonball fighting manga opened at #3 with US$2,578,896 on 540 screens. It earned less money in Japan than it did in China, but more than in South Korea.

So about $4775 per screen, right?

Quote:
Toei Animation's Precure All Stars DX: Minna Tomodachi— Kiseki no Zenin Daishūgō film opened at #5 and earned US$1,464,617 on 156 screens. Like Drop, this fifth-anniversary Precure magical girl film also opened on Friday, and thus had a gross-to-date of US$2,486,265 by the end of the weekend.

So DB:E made about $100,000 more it's opening week.

Per screen has it's uses, but overall the biggest issue (for me at least) is if a movie is only playing at one movie chain locally vs all the theaters in the area is if it's playing everywhere, I have my choice of where to see it (seating vs parking vs price vs presentation), while if it's only playing at AMC or Ultrastar, I have to go to one of their chain (closest to me vs more convenient time driving a bit) giving me fewer options. And if it's only in one chain, it may also only be in one or 2 of their theaters, leaving me at the mercy of that one theater's times & prices vs waiting for the dvd.

So offhand, it looks like people wanting to see DB:E have about 4 times as many locations they can choose to see it at while Precure they have fewer choices of seeing the film.

And with almost 4 times as many screens showing DB:E, you would expect there to be at least double the amount money tha$t Precure made.

$100,000 sure isn't much.

I'm not saying DB:E is a total flop in Japan, but I don't think it lived up to the expectations of the producers.

I'm interested to see how it'll do here in the States.
