Maybe for titles that are already well expected to come over, but they still can't cover every show that comes out, so the battle rages on. And it's not like the shows they miss aren't bad shows either. At least in that respect, fansubs can still see a genuine purpose. |

And therein lies the problem. My way of thinking sees download-to-own as more the realm of those series which in all likelihood won't see a DVD release in US/Australia/UK. It's a much larger marketing potential - and if there's a legitimate avenue to watch online and later download the episodes, there are no longer justifications for fansubs. The FMA streaming deals in the US and Australia are a great start, but this is something they could have started well before even the original FMA series aired. Meanwhile, I have to say it's somewhat disappointing that Michiko Neya isn't reprising her role as Riza Hawkeye. Would have been interesting to see her and Shinichiro Michi bringing their Mao/Kurz dynamic across from Full Metal Panic and into the at times not dissimilar Riza/Roy dynamic. |

Ok I have no problem with people who use streams or downloads anime legitimately or not. I do have a problem with all those who say that the North American anime industry should switch to using those means only. I myself live in an area where the fastest internet is not fast enough to support the high quality streams. It takes me one whole hour to download one twenty-five minute episode, and to watch it on a stream would take fifteen minutes to buffer enough to watch about half the episode. Then there's the fact that I have a five gig bandwidth cap, and some people in my area have it worse. They have a 350 megabyte cap. So anybody who thinks that the internet is the way it should go is kind of wrong. It is possible for it in the future, but as it stands right now it is not a fully viable means for content distribution.

Of course it shouldn't be the sole means of distribution - as you say, the infrastructure to support it just doesn't exist in far too great a proportion of the market. Download-to-own episodes need to be a part of the product model even if a worldwide bandwidth is achieved. |

I'm all positive about this!
Yay! Thank you Funimation!  I expected this, but as the premiere date got closer, I started to wonder if you would do like Viz and stream the latest episodes of your most popular series online! You came through ~smart choice and smarter business!
Now I have to start reading the manga from the beginning so I can appreciate the reprisal more. |

I think anything digital should be an option for EVERY anime. The only option? No. But I don't see why every anime can't be streaming on some site and selling HD downloads. The cost to do it is minimal to zero, since many times you'd be giving streaming rights to a 3rd party company who will handle all the tech issues. You could sell the rights or get a cut of any ad revenue generated. Thats like free money with no cost to you. Its a whole new revenue stream that you didn't have before with little to no expenses to support it. Like for FMA... I looooove FMA. If they were selling HD downloads or putting it up on Crunchyroll's paid subscription, I would totally purchase every episode of it or sign up for the subscription (which I already have). I think a DL thats HD and $2-$3 would get alot of anime fans who have jobs to do a quick purchase. It's cheap enough to not really even have to think about it. |

I just wanna know three things.
1. When's the dub coming? 2. Are they gonna use the original VA cast? (The fact that the Japanese version doesn't has me a bit worried, but at the very least I hope we have Vic Mignogna, Aaron Dismuke and of course Chris Sabat reprising their original roles...) 3. Is it gonna air on Adult Swim? |

That's if the block still exists by the time FUNi is done with dubbing and localization. This is going to be interesting to see if FUNi can really compete with the fansubbers. They say "high-quality," but unless they air it in 720i it's not going to work as well since the subbers are already putting out 720i. For me, it's going to come down to the quality and the subtitles, if FUNi can deliver on that then they will have been successful. |
