I wonder if this will be a new GAINAX project or if he's shooting solo? I've been really excited to see what GAINAX does next, so I hope it's the former!

I haven't seen a Gainax production is didn't enjoy. Here's hoping it's Evangelion/Gurren Lagann/FLCL quality. Anime smile

From what I recall when he was at Fanimecon 2008, he really didn't leave Gainax just stepped away from all the backlash. I agree that people were being dumbasses about that particular episode, but hey that is the internets for you! Smile

I still can't really "forgive" him for resigning, though.

You should never, ever give into the demands of a group like 2ch, for god's sake. 4chan (especially /b/) and 2ch, if it's anything like 4chan, are the absolute scum of the Internet. Any comments or opinions posted there absolutely do not matter to anyone but themselves.

That said, I want to know more about this Gurren Lagann PC game. I hope it's not a dating sim, but it's probably going to end up as some kind of visual novel...

Didn't he step down after he was found out for responding to peoples criticism? It was incredibly unprofessional what he did and said so I agree with his choice. Not to mention the episode was incredibly badly animated, no matter which way you look at it.

Publicly-speaking, yes. However, these things are often mandated by the top (forced resignation), and even if it isn't, the person in question is expected to step down.

Yeah, he resigned from the board of directors but not the company.

4chan the scum of the 'net...yeah, sorta. Their "memes" are so esoteric that noone outside their own circle even gets them. O RLY, YA RLY, NO WAY, SRSLY...what the heck does that even MEAN!?!?!

I think when he said "the comments were like putting his face next to an anus and breathing," he just meant about 2ch in general, not about that particular episode! Very Happy

I always look forward to new Gainax projects. I just want it to be something good and hopefully original (meaning I don't really want a manga or light-novel adaptation). I would also like something that I can take serious. Something serious and experimental. I really love it when Gainax gets experimental. I don't like the otaku pandering stuff that they've been doing lately. Not that I didn't like Gurren Lagann, I thought it was lots of fun but I couldn't get into it as much as most other people.

Here's hoping for the best.

I'm also keeping an eye out for Hideaki Anno's new studio Khara. I can't wait for them to finish this Evangelion stuff so that I can see something original from them. I have a feeling they might be the new Gainax when it's all said and done.

I guess that whole affair was just a promotion prank to draw attention toward the project. Also, his reaction was more than understandable.
