This is just sad, I'm sorry but if you have to stoop so low you have to use a matching service to find friends you need a life.
 (imo). Sure I have facebook and myspace and twitter but I don't use it to seek out new life. As to an explanation why I use it, it is to stay in contact with friends that insist I use its services. Now that my rant is done...interesting.

Damn, Otaku's got a workout for them now and social networking site. Seems they're becoming very popular now. What's next a video game as an Otaku..... maybe

I donno. I've used internet sites to find folks in my area for gaming, and many of them have become good friends. I wouldn't say the concept is intrinsically bad, but I could see it getting kind of Craig's List-y.

Have you ever thought that maybe they have a life, just not a social one? I work full time and do my hobby on whatever little free time I get, but I don't go out partying or hitting bars trying to meet new people and I don't even go to cons anymore since they're mostly filled with kids. And btw, there are websites like that for pretty much all kind of people, from business men to people who share the same religion, so an otaku only website seems like a good idea. |

We read one of these things in my japanese class, the whole friendship finding adds thing....strangest thing in the world. People pretty much put "looking for friends/significant other" in the classifieds....really creepy, but different culture I suppose

Well, I don't see it being THAT bad. The friends I hang out with IRL are all not related to anime. I've only met anime-fan friends thanks to the internet and it's not like my social skills were lacking. From that point of view I guess it's alright to offer such a service.
Now if it's just that you aren't able to make friend at all, well.. that's different. |

Sounds like a great idea to me. Having such rare interests (admittedly not quite as rare in Japan) makes it hard to find people you can relate to - this might make it easier.

My friend's mother remarried after her first husband died. She found the man on J-date and they have a very good relationship.

"sociopaths"? Man, what's your problem? So there are tons of social sites for people of other interests -- heck, even meetup.com is such a site -- but somehow those catering to otaku interests, which btw include our interests, is considered a total failure? You say this site is for those who can't socialize via small talk in real life. So you're saying that it's OK to ask everyone new you meet "Hey, do you like anime? How about Haruhi?". The whole point is that it's hard to randomly encounter people who share of the same niche interest, so much so that's awkward to bring up in conversation, particularly in any small talk. |

I... I think this is a cool idea.
._______. But I mean, even aside from finding strangers, it's kind of cool if, say, you want to know if anyone from your school has your same interests, if someone happens to use this site. It's fun to meet new friends on the internet, and not all otaku are smelly and gross =_= |

I would be supportive of an English version. Hell I'd probably use it. Most if not all of my friends aren't into anime and manga, at least not anymore.
Though an otaku dating service would be better ... |
