This is new news!

That’s a solid list of titles, Genius Party is freaking brilliant, I saw this in a Shijuku anime fair two years back, blew my brains right out of my noise Razz

Isn’t Siren the original anime distribution label for Australia?

They used to distribute Manga UK stuff before the current main distributor Madman hit the scene. However since then, they kinda went downhill and were distributing hentai titles for a bit recently.

But yes, Genius Party has me happy that's for sure.

However these have been big sellers for them, despite a myriad of censorship problems and retail chains bowing down to the moral minority.

ANN|AU have been informed that all future anime releases from Siren Visual will be to the higher standard that Australian anime fans expect from their releases.

How humble of them. At first I thought they were admitting their products weren't produced to a certain degree of professionalism, but now I realise that they mean something slightly different.

Seeing you post here, I thought I was still back on the Madman boards, and I was about to mention "Is this the right place for this?".

How big were Siren Visual before MadMan hit the scene? As big as Madman are now or as big as MadMan are a few years ago?

Surprised Ah so Siren was the father of Manga UK in Australia and Madman?

How small are Siren? Does anyone know?
Reading the About page : [http://www.sirenvisual.com.au/]

Someone told me Madman are listed on the stock exchange and that they have union reps knocking on there door ?? ... that's not much chop! How many people work there?

It's all interesting anyway, I can't wait to see Genius Party again, It's darn right AWESOME!

Hi this is Eric from Siren. I'll just reply to everyone in mass:

Zin5ki - Some of our products weren't produced to a certain degree of professionalism, you're exactly right. Previous management structure, along with an inferior authoring house is the reason for this. These problems have since been rectified.

re: hentai titles - yes they sell well, yes we always had problems with the OFLC, yes don't underestimate the power of porn....we play by the rules and we like the overall consistency we've put together in respect to the branding, particularly in terms of the packaging.

あのなんですか? - Siren used to distribute Madman, kind of like the AV channel. In addition Siren licensed their own titles, the biggest one by far was Pokemon. Some of the guys who worked at Siren broke away to start their own company (AV Channel) in late 2000 and one of the outcomes was the owner of Siren was left with a lot of debt, which forced the company to sell Manga UK to them. We're pretty small - only a handful of us finding and putting out releases.

Where Madman have a business model that incorporates bringing most aspects of the business under one roof, we rely on partnerships with other small businesses in the community - which explains our relationship with Gryphon (we hire them to call up stores and sell stuff for us) and others. This keeps our overheads down and allows us to be more flexible with the types of releases we put out.

And finally - yes - we can't wait for GENIUS PARTY. I hope you like it as much as we do.

Best,
Eric

Hi Eric

That is very informative, thanks!!

Seems like all old grudgers here should take a boat ride with Pauline Hanson to someplace else... maybe to a firing squad

Congratulations on Genius Party, I'll be buying this before anything else.

Will Siren release Genius Party Beyond?? --- i gotta have this!

Yes indeed we are putting out both Genius Party and eventually Genius Party beyond - later we'll put out a box set but we'll sell the slipcase on its own through our website so no need to wait.

Best,
Eric

That's quite a respectable act. I can fathom many a company trying to overlook their past flaws instead of admitting them and vowing to improve.

As a smaller, more flexible company, is it harder to obtain licences for new shows than it is for Madman et al?

Hi again,

Frankly, yes. The trade off of keeping low overheads is the cost of each sale is higher, and when bidding against a company who owns their own printing press, authoring house and is owned by a publicly listed children's toy company, they have more cash and can simply outbid us.

But that doesn't concern us. In my view, Madman has done an exceptional job - probably best in the world - building up an anime brand and with it, the community. Some pretty awesome people work there, too. Our aim is to offer a point of difference, focusing on releases they probably wouldn't do anyway, ultimately developing the anime community a little further, so both companies are allowed to co-exist.

Having said that, our request to join the madboards has been declined by their administration. Since we're getting beaten up pretty badly over there, I'd like to at least make it clear that we're listening, even though we can't defend or explain ourselves. If anyone wants to jump over here we'll gladly answer questions or deal with complaints.

We're also on Panic, Supanova and Manifest forums (suggestions for others would be appreciated).

Thanks for the comment Zin5ki,
Eric

We live in interesting times Smile As per usual anyone is allowed to post here, as long as they are behaving themselves. Hopefully Madman will change their mind, but then again that's the advantage of running your own forum.
