WTF?!

Getting screwed over again by M$!!!

Why can't they just give us the demo and game on the PS3, where it belongs, and let the 360 have it whenever its ready? Seriously... I have both consoles, but this is ridiculous. I've already bought this damn movie several times, as new versions of it kept coming out. Now they want me to buy it again, albeit on Blu-Ray, without the biggest draw to its huge sales in Japan? Pathetic...

*goes to cry in shame, knowing he'll buy it anyway*

I have to agree that this is horribly disappointing news, although not particularly unexpected. I was hoping that they’d release the demo with the Blu-Ray here, but it would probably have proven to be more difficult for them.

It could just boil down to them not having finished the English localization for the demo portion, and they don’t want to spend the time doing that, which would detract from them working on the full game. It’s easier for the Japanese demo, as all they have to do is take a segment of the semi-finished game and place that on the demo disk. But there is the possibility that when they agreed to release it on the 360, Squeenix may have made a deal with Microsoft that prevented them from releasing the demo with the North American release of Advent Children on Blu-Ray. It would make sense from a Microsoft point of view, as you’d be cutting off reasons for people to get the PS3.

I suspect that we’ll eventually get a portion of the demo for download, once they have it ready for both systems. In the mean time, I’m with you in the fact that I’ll still buy this on Blu-Ray. At the moment, I’m pretty much a sucker for almost any anime in HD, so I’ll definitely be picking it up!

Actually, you can blame Nintendo, not Microsoft. [snip]

Knowing Square-Enix, there's probably a BR version in the works, and will probably be released as a limited edition set to PS3 owners. I'm sure some XBox 360 fans will get upset, but they'll get over it playing another round of Halo online.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed in hopes Sony and Square-Enix are working on a PS3 bundle. I've been holding out on this console for quite some time, and this game is definitely going to push me to finally get it.

Yes, one game for a console. That's how much value I place into the FF franchise and those damn online trailers make me salivate every single time.

Oh, and before anyone interjects, yes, I will also get the FF version for the Wii.

It was quite unnecessary to insult teh darkness. Since when did they do bundles for FF games anyway? The real problem is that the Japanese game companies really don't appreciate their American (or European) audiences....

I'm getting the game of course though. I mean just look at my username.

Meh, one game being the reason a person buys a $300 - 400+ consoles isn't as unusual as you think. Heck, inticially most people bought 360s for the Halo games or Gears of War. Whether they buy more games beyond that is up to them.

I was one of the 100,000 that picked it up, and the demo is pretty amazing. If the game has a decent story when it finally arrives, it should be a pretty awesome game.
Also, for those of you who haven't heard, the Japanese version of Advent Children does not include English subtitles, but does includes the full American dub. I thought that was weird, but whatever...

What, am I the only one that noticed this little gem?

Assuming they go through with it, this means us not in Japan can get the demo without having to buy a movie we've already bought 100 times. Isn't this rather good news? Apparently no one can believe there might be a better alternative for the states. Rolling Eyes

Sony will likely localize the demo and make it available to download on the PS3. However, I suspect that it'll be "held back", until a 360 download is also ready and available.

I'm assuming this is so that the game will sell as well on the 360. By releasing it the way they did in Japan, it would increase PS3 sales, which would mean a far larger market would buy the game on the PS3 when it comes out, instead of on the 360.

They want to keep the sales up on both, and there's nothing wrong with that.

A digital download demo for both would be really great.

Kitase sounds clueless about the world outside of Japan, as common with most Japanese executives.

Ah well, if things haven't changed by this point (near-mid 2009) then they never will.

That's because most American and European audiences don't appreciate RPGs anyways. Most only care about shooters, hence when you visit review sites, most of them trash RPGs.

However this is sad that there won't be a Blu-Ray Demo. I was going to keep it as a collector's item Sad

I was dead set on getting this on blu-ray but then it's pretty much confirmed that the original scenes are not HD and only up res SD while only the new scenes are in HD... way to screw up Square Enix! This is really a travesty and I refuse to waste money on such a half assed product.

It was pretty obvious to me that we would not be getting any demo. For one localization has only just begun on FFXIII and they wouldn't release any sort of demo for the US/EU without localization. Those expecting one at this stage were simply dreaming... But hopefully the previews they put on the disc are totally new and worthwhile otherwise Square can get lost.

Also a lot of decisions surrounding FFXIII highly indicate that the move of making the game multiplatform was because Microsoft paid them. For starters, the fact that the launch in US/EU is going to be simultaneous, no demo unless both get it etc. when it is obvious the 360 version will take longer to port highly indicate this. Because when past games published by Square for both consoles had some issue with the PS3 version, the PS3 version was delayed and the 360 version was released anyway. Part of the paid deal must involve that the PS3/360 release be simultaneous. Tough luck for PS3 owners, but that's the way it is...

Anyway if this particular demo is released digitally, it'll probably be the biggest damn demo we ever download since it's said to weigh in at 5 Gigs! I'll really be interested in seeing how they port this thing to the 360...

Kitase said that the lack of overseas FFXIII Blu-ray demo plans was partly due to Square Enix's dual-console release strategy outside Japan.

Not the best "strategery" I've seen from Square Enix...

just leave it on the PS3 and be done with it.

I'd love that, but I refuse to buy any PS3 that's not backwards compatible. I have way too many PS2 games I'd like to keep and play, and upscaling the graphics would be nice and I'd prefer to have as little consoles kicking around as possible. So, Sony, hint, hint for the next bundle.
As for the actual news, I am a bit irked that we won't be seeing the demo in the States, but if it's available via (free) download I won't complain. If not, then damn you M$! Of course, the very thought of FF being on Xbox irritates me...

Thank you... [snip] I don't think I'd have both next-gen consoles and be planning on buying a BD FF movie if I was 12. Especially not in this economy. [snip]

As for this move, how the hell do you blame Nintendo? If it wasn't for M$ paying them off, this game would be PS3 only, as there are tons of people who've just been waiting for it to come out before buying a PS3. Hell, my older brother had a PS3 but got rid of it cause at the time, no good games were coming out, but he claims he'll just buy another one once FF XIII comes out. And you can't claim this was solely S-E wanting more money, or else VS. XIII would be multi-platform as well.

Now, not only will the PS3 full game be delayed thanks to their wanting to have a simultaneous release on both systems (how this will help sales is beyond me, they release games on the 360 a year or more before the PS3 all the time, hypocrisy much?), but they also won't be giving us the demo (translated or not, people still would have played it), and they're saying we might get a downloadable demo? Yeah, not until a 360 one is available at the same time. Way to continue completely screwing over your established fanbase, who've been waiting forever for this.

[No insults, guys. Thanks. ~C]
