Why do I see Ubel Blatt being animated by Mizushima at GAINAX? Insight maybe?

My brain first parsed that headline as Mizushima and Gainax working on a Gundam project. I thought perhaps they had finally found a way to convince me to watch something with "Gundam" in the title. Laughing

I'm even more interested now that my reading comprehension kicked in and I see what it really says. Wink

Let's hope he can avoid some of the editorial pitfalls that made the second season of Gundam 00 not as good as it could have been.

Mizushima + Gainax, wow, can't wait to hear what this new project is going to be after his Gundam 00 and FMA. Hopefully it's got a large scale setting like those two shows.

Second Season of Gundam 00 was fine in my book anyway so hopefully he can repeat his success under a new banner that will see his prowess not end up so obfuscated. It's amazing what being associated with a studio name that isn't trolled in anime circles will do for you these days.

With the name Gainax there won't be as much of a temptation to prejudge the show negatively so I don't see there being anything to avoid other then the immature freakouts and clamouring/bandwagoning to call a show crap some people have anytime the name Sunrise is behind anything. I would have made the same move to work with Gainax next if I were Mizushima too.

For reference sake, Mizushima has worked with Gainax once before: he directed "Both of you, dance like you want to win!", one of the more enjoyable episodes of Evangelion.

LOL. I think Gainax could literally package crap in DVD cases and people would call it a masterpiece. Despite Sunris's bad reputation in the english speaking world, they seem to do pretty good for themselves in Japan.

I thought Seiji Mizushima would be working on the Gundam 00 movie thats due out in 2010. What happened to that? Is he going to be working on both projects at once or is this one not going to be starting for a while? I'm not sure how long it takes to make an animated movie.

I'm sure he is directing it; I'd guess the movie is already under way, too (it's slated for release in January, isn't it?). Whatever the case, I doubt that directorial work on these two projects will entirely overlap, so it would be possible to work on both in parallel. [/conjecture]

What do you mean? Was there a conflict of some sort with the broadcasters, or were you just referring to how the season was put together in general?

Either way, I thought the second season of 00 was awesome. It could have been better, but there's always room for improvement.

Gundam 00 is subject to the same memetic writer bashing and series hating BS that all Sunrise series are, so I'm sure if people actually had a legitimate reasoni for knocking Mizushima for Gundam 00 Second Season they would have given one already. I wouldn't read too much into it.

I would have to assume so.

Maybe I missed it.. but could you point me out to the hate that Gintama, Zegapain, Kekkaishi, Freedom, Idol Master Xenoglossia, Tales of the Abyss and Sora o Kakeru Shoujo received?

Kurokami hate is because of manga fans and it wouldn't matter who animated it period if they served that same crap up. The most disappointing thing about Sunrise [expletive] up like this is that Sunrise generally do a great job with shonen manga adaptions....

Code Geass R2 just hit the same wall as Heroes and Lost did.. while lots of fans still love it just as much others see a massive decline in quality.

I really wasn't that impressed by Gundam 00, it was good and very solid but they wasted a lot of things, but honestly I thought Mizushima did a much better job with FMA. And yeah it did get a lot of unwarranted hate but at the same time it had heaps of overzealous fanboys who thought it couldn't do anything wrong so it evened out in the end.

And really Kaoi.. nearly every popular series is the same.. surely you've noticed this over the years? Frontier, Death Note, FMA Brotherhood, Bebop, Eva etc.
