Covers were drawn by American artists until the third cover, when the magazine paid 700 dollars to Gainax's Yoshiyuki Sadamoto to create cover art based on the Wings of Honneamise anime.

I'm surprised they had the connections to meet Sadamoto. And I'm surprised he pocketed such little pay for a fanzine. Or maybe $700 was actually worth more back then?

I'm a little sad that I'm missing out on Fanime this year to save money to go to Comic-con. I see the religious nuts were back. It seems like they were out in larger numbers and being more annoying this time around. Last year they were just standing with signs and there was a Jesus cosplayer on hand to confuse them into a fury.

lol I remember those Christians. What was funnier was the group of fangoers hanging next to them dancing to music, flipping people off, and a dude with a sign "T*ts or GTFO" There were a bunch of staff members there making sure nothing got out of hand too.

Wow, religion is invading Fanime too. Nothing wrong with that, of course, except in the way these folks are doing it.

I prefer the way Anime Central handled it: having an entire worship panel on Sunday morning (for ours, Vic Mignogna and Caitlin Glass lead it with the con-goers). It was a big success, from what I heard, so maybe other cons may take that idea into consideration...without protests. XP

Based on experience with these sort of protesters, I don't think they were protesting because religion wasn't being recognized. They were protesting anime and the convention in general because they see it as sinful. I don't think they would have backed down just because there was a worship panel one morning; especially if the panel was a non-denominational/open meeting rather than their specific fire and brimstone type of Christianity. Confused

To be honest, I'd be hard pressed to believe these protesters are actually Christians in the first place. They don't seem to have correct doctrine from what I gather.

This is coming from someone who has seen them at Fanime this year and years past, and am a Christian myself. Personally I wish they would go away and stop creating a bad image on what Christianity really is.

I've heard about Vic's Sunday services at some cons, and would love to attend one some day. Asked him about it once and he said it's up to the convention.

The Christian protesters were quite amusing this year! I went outside at one point when they were out there and there was this one guy with a "Jesus Love You" sign handing out fliers. So while standing nearby with a small group of friends we started having a not-so-private (we were practically shouting) conversation about hentai. Maybe I went too far but I contributed with the line, "Yeah, even Jesus watches hentai -- I saw him in there last night watching Night Shift Nurses." Of course referring to the cosplayer who dressed up as Jesus Laughing

I kind of wish they wouldn't be so pushy with their religion when we're just there to have a good time. It's not like we are worshiping anime or anything like that (I can't speak for everyone though... Wink ).

Someone should have handed them a copy of Chrono Crusade.

Heh, j/k. Actually, I think ignoring them is the best way for them to amscray I never heard anything like this at other anime cons or events, so I hope this isn't becoming a trend.

I had a friend that went to a christian convention in Ohio once and there was an anime convention next door and when he came back he said it was like a satanist worshipers meeting, needless to say I don't talk to him much anymore

I also think the guy in a skirt he saw didn't help his view on cosplayers

Egad. I don't understand why those with religious motives would take this as an opportunity. Admittedly, there can be some 'interesting' material at a con, but surely it's mostly harmless fun?
I can't see who'd be offended by a man explaining how he used his Amiga for fansubbing.

Hehe, I was at that anime convention Razz The funniest part was that we had a Jesus cosplayer there, and all of the Christian convention people were glaring at him the whole time. For the most part they left us alone, though.

There was a cheerleading convention that same weekend too - talk about an overabundance of scantily clad women.

I'd like to think it was on behalf of my friends who were robbed of a prize after doing "Don't Fear The Reaper" while dressed as the crew from Left 4 Dead. Rock Band politics.

There was a boomer attack during the bridge!
