Looks like Otakon's got the better guests this year. Maybe certain nameless con planners should stop trying to bring over musical talent only popular with people who import CDs.

Here's the link to that, if anyone else is interested. We'll be sure to interview Ishiguro again at Otakon 2009, but in all honesty we have not released most of our interviews recorded at Otakon 2008 (Masao Maruyama, Kappei Yamaguchi, etc) because the rooms Otakon provided for the interviews last year were not exactly conducive to getting intelligible voice recordings. Of all the interviews, the one with the worst audio quality was our incredibly great Kazuko Tadano and Hiromi Matsushita interview in which we more or less only asked questions pertaining to Crystal Triangle. AND THEY REVEALED THE HIDDEN AND PREVIOUSLY UNKNOWN TO THE WORLD SECRETS OF CRYSTAL TRIANGLE. Unfortunately, all that really came out on the audio side (for the answers anyway) was the bass from the adjacent "Club Otakon" rave room. The amount of amplification required to hear something in most of these recordings would also bring up the noise floor so high (you can only reduce by so much) that listening to them would be a pain. In any case, boring tech issues aside, I'm relieved to see that Otakon announced such a string of really strong guests just in the nick of time because the nature of that con is that you more or less just have to book your reservations on good faith alone. Once you actually reach the point where the cool guest announcements get made, it's far too late to get a room. |

I'm glad the reaction has been positive, but I just hope that the attendees at large show up. We only got confirmation of some of these folks a few days ago; it's been like that all year for guests due to economy, industry re-organization, swine flu fears, etc.
Sadly Japanese guests often are not the draw they ought to be and panel/autograph attendance is hard to predict. Still, getting personal thank-yous from some of the hard core fans every now and again makes it a bit more rewarding. 
Our panel schedule just went to press, so I'm hoping my changes are reflected. And we were SO close to having it all correct this time! |

Though I love both BGC: Tokyo 2040 and Hidenori Matsubara, in the interest of accuracy it should be noted that the latter never designed the characters for the former, and that the ANN Encyclopedia entries for that series and that individual are wrong (regardless of whether or not the article's information was sourced from the Encyclopedia).
This can be confirmed on the series page maintained by AIC, the Japanese animation production company, as I've also noted in my error report suubmitted via the Encyclopedia. Just sayin', is all. |

This is too awesome. Now my laminated Belldandy poster can be signed by Inoue Kikuko AND Hidenori Matsubara. This is gonna be such a great Otakon and it hasn't started yet....
