Um, only Japan saw the original comics in the 50s. Unless they're referring to those unauthorized versions...

Kristen Bell remarked that this is her first voice-over for animation (Bell provides the voice-over for the live-action drama Gossip Girl)

She was also on Veronica Mars and in Fanboys, for those keeping score at home.

Don't worry. The doujin writers will make sure it's more than that. Razz

This sounds like a fun, family friendly movie. I'm really looking forward to it. If it aint too violent, I might even be able to convince my sister to let my nephew see it.

One minor gripe: if they wanted a female character to act as foil and friend without romantic implications, why didn't they just work Uran, Astro's "sister," into the film? Unless they just renamed her Cora, but kept her character the same...

Well, I'm still iffy on this movie. Yes, I'm going to end up seeing it, how can I not, but I'm hoping it's as good as they all seem to think it is.

Curious as to why they'd add a new foil, I thought Atlas filled that role pretty well. I wouldn't mind if they'd picked someone from the Tezuka star system, the Metropolis movie took Rock Holmes, but adding a non-Tezuka character...honestly it seems almost disrespectful to me to add a character that was never his in a homage to one of his series.

On the plus side, the game being made for this movie might not be bad, for one, it's not being made by Sonic Team and secondly it looks like the developers are trying to imitate the style of the Omega Factor GBA game, aka "the good Astro boy game".

Cora looks older than sis Uran, seemed older than Astro in appearance in the clip, but it wasn't clear in the clip.

Well, I was very heartened to hear that Cora is not meant as a romantic interest to Astro! I don't mind them making some changes here and there, but that would a big switch from the original. My feelings for this movie are teetering back towards optimism.

The panel then focused on Bell's character Cora, who wasn't in the comics and was created for the film; the character is intended to be a “foil” for Astro rather than a romantic interest (although obviously there are mild romantic elements involved, Highmore insisted the relationship is a “friendship”.)

...why...

Why not use his classmates or Uran...

Well, it could have been worse I guess. Samuel L. Jackson? lol

My guess is, based on what little I've seen in the trailers, is that this Astro Boy movie takes place early in the story, right after Astro was created to be Tobio Tenma and before Uran showed up or his classmates. Still, I wish I could hear more details about the actual plot, rather than just characters and voice actors. :-/
