As to why they're starting with episode 13 and not episode 1, I'm guessing that they're catering to those who bought the first 12 episodes on uncut DVD a few years back.

I'll wait until more eppies are available before I start watching though.

It's as I've predicted all along.

If times ever got tough for 4Kids they'd come crying back to the fans.

And as I've said all along I'm not going to help them out in any way what-so-ever.

Go die 4Kids.

Why is that surprising to you at all? It's a good show.

Another way to look at it is that if 4Kids goes under, it's very likely their titles could be lost in licensing limbo, and we'll never get their anime released uncut. Same thing happened when Disney bought Saban.

Besides, the manager of the 4Kids YouTube page said the higher ups at 4Kids are very skeptical of this idea (they don't believe it'll return a profit) so it's not like the entire company is riding on this one experiment.

As interesting as this is, I don't understand why both hard and soft subtitles are uploaded- surely the latter alone would suffice.
I assume Asian countries already have legal access to the uncut episodes by now, from a licensor other than 4Kids.
Regardless, this is probably as good a potential swansong (if indeed it is appropriate to use such a word) as one could expect from them.

Here's hoping the hitherto invisible guns will become visible!

No, not stop dubbing, but dub better.

I think it's a bit too late for the anime fans. It seems like "hating 4Kids" is all the rage. I have no resentment towards them since I see what they did. They couldn't air stuff on TV if it was a bit too mature. An example would be when Tea gets captured by that one Pharaoh guy and the Joey gets hypnotized, ya da ya da. They had to cut some scenes because, I mean if I was a parent I would complain that my kid shouldn't be watching hostage situations on what should be a kids show, not a 14+ show.

4Kids gets way too much hate. Outside of One Piece, they haven't wronged anyone imo. They spread anime to ALOT of people with shows like Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh.

People hate edits but most of them are like 19 year olds mad that there aren't exploding heads and rampant profanity in a show aimed at 5 year olds. That's an epic fail in it's own right, but that's a different topic.

I mean, good luck at getting a TV-MA cartoon shown after school or at 9am on a saturday morning. The constant shuffling and canceling of Adult Swim's anime block shows you just how "successful" showing late night unedited anime can be.

As far as dubbing, this is a loss. 4Kids was actually one of the better companies when it comes to dubbing imo. Most anime dubs are garbage when you compare the quality to ANY US made cartoon. Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh and Digimon are some of the few that don't stick out like a sore thumb compared to american cartoons. I don't know if 4Kids had insane wallets or just hired good people, but they were one of the only people making good dubs on a regular basis.

Wow. First time I've ever heard anyone say this before...
What exactly are you comparing to though, proper stuff like The Simpsons and Family Guy or shows aimed at similiar audiences?
In my experience, the whole reason eng dub anime tends to suck so much is because it isn't as high profile as with Japan, so naturally the talent is lacking. All we have is people who's experience is either with US cartoons or video games.

If people want bad dubs they can watch any dub from the '80's. Otherwise, the dubs aren't super terrible, just not that good.

It really couldn't hurt if they aired it a few hours earlier. I mean, who the hell watches King of the Hill on Cartoon Network when it's on 100 other channels?

I never listened to Yugioh in Japanese before. Is this what people were complaining about? The English voice cast sounds better to me, especially Yami with his cool voice.

It's like Japanese DBZ v English DBZ all over again...okay it's not that bad.
