I, too, think this is a cool idea, but as somebody who functions as a "gate-keeper" at an entertainment company himself, I sympathize with whomever at Viz is going to be responsible for plowing through these submissions. If the usual laws of development apply, he/she/them will be going through a mountain of dreck to see a few glints of promise.

Same here, omnistry. This is a great idea because of this: I may be going on a limb, however, the winning idea(s) could get popular enough to go to Japan and be turned into an anime.

Hmmm I'm curious as to the amount of submissions they'll be getting...
although are they still going Manga style or more American comic style?

Haha, my only experience is the drawings I've done since I was in Elementary school! My last art class was in 10th grade.
I wouldn't stand a chance, but I suppose it never hurts to try

I think someone around here should submit an idea about this elf who reports on anime news, and all the wacky adventures she, and her friends, go through. You could use otaku in-jokes and make witty commentary about the anime industry. Shoot, you could even create a imaginary anime series to occasionally refer to! Wink Very Happy

I would think on their website they give details or maybe ANN will later today submit how to do it.

haha it's right on they're front page, but i don't see anything on the kind of format they want they're submissions.

Like Drawings? Story line in a paragraph? Whole page story submission? Title Cover? I'm at a loss xx

The fact that Viz is also accepting pitches alongside submissions is nice, since every other time this stuff happens it's always just for artists and not for people who have ideas but can't really draw, like me.

Now, to only decide which one is worth pitching...

That might be a good way to do business since they can't always rely on foreign imports. Perhaps some creative American minds can create some manga-style comic centered around American culture as opposed to Japanese (think Inuyasha for instance). What could happen, a manga adaptation of Gossip Girl I think?

Why did 4Kids Entertainment just create their own properties rather than butchering anime? I'm personally better off with 4Kids creating its own crummy series than butchering foreign shows.

When they say comics do they mean comic, comics or something more like a manga idea?

Even though I love manga, and I'm a fairly good writer, I've been trying to no avail to create something in such medium. My ideas are just not visual enough to translate into comics. I'd rather stick to my own tools of the trade, thank you.

Though the idea of something being popular enough to create an anime doesn't seem far-fetched, as both Iron Man and Wolverine are getting anime of their own.

Thats stuff I want to know, I can draw good enough to show character design ideas and I write a pretty a good storyline and characters. (But my editing sucks) I have a good number of main characters and quite a few story main arcs and side arcs that lead in the order of whats the most dangerous and interesting.

I have no problem with drawing out a first chapter or something along the lines of just a character image, but i just need to know what they want me to submit.
Anyone else think it's shameful to think of fillers when you haven't even tried to make it big?
