I hope the Disappearance movie is one hell of a spectacular production. Not only do they have to cover an entire novel, but I feel that KyoAni needs to redeem itself after that "Endless Eight" debacle.

I'm devestated.
When I first heard about a Gintama movie, I thought it had to be the Shiroyasha tale. Not only would it cause huge interest from fans, but it would make the film accessible to new fans.
Instead we get another crappy retelling movie based on an anime TV series. Even though I'm a huge fan of Gintama, I'll be passing on this.
Missed chance Sunrise, missed chance...

Perhaps they won't be so risky when it comes to a theatrical release- people could boycott the screenings if news spread about another intentional disappointment. Assuming a modicum of intelligence on KyoAni's part, they ought to be able to entertain franchise fans willing to overlook their past experimentation. They certainly have the ability.

NO! They're retelling the Benizakura arc? But they already told that arc! And they did a good job, too! Oh well, at least it's a good arc...

I wouldn't put it past Sunrise to troll the fans. It's what they do. Razz

Word, Moonhoo, a Gintama dub would be all kinds of awesome!

I don't even care if it gets dubbed. It just needs to be brought over but I fear Funi is the only one in good enough shape to do it.

Wow great commentary in this thread, A++++++++ . Just watch the movies or don't kids, it won't kill you either way. Rolling Eyes

As far as I can say Sunrise hasn't missed any chances when I see what the Gundam Unicorn trailer looks like. The fact they have at least four movies coming out next year that all look pretty good seems like an achievement on it's own.

Kyoani on the other hand.....having been my favourite studio to comment on "doing it wrong" I have no idea what to think of and would sooner put the label of "trolling" fans on them if I had to then on the other guy even if both have perhaps deserved it at times. There's been no actual teaser footage shown of the movie so far and it's coming out in early February after just being recently announced. I'm getting bad vibes already.

I'd say they ought not to rush this, but when I think of the fans they have and how willing they are to buy anything they put out and call it a masterpiece of epic proportions I don't think they'll think it matters either way how they approach the movie. We'll see, but I don't expect much from the Haruhi movie right now and if I end up watching it I'll keep my expectations low.

Even if the official site for Gintama has announced that the movie will be a retelling of the Benizakura arc, I wouldn't say anything's for certain just yet, need I remember everyone here of the whole Gintama-ending-after-season-3-spoof? Heck, they even got the director to say he wasn't going to work on the 4th season...

Anyway, even if it IS about the Benizakura arc, I'll definitely be checking this movie out. They couldn't have chosen a better arc to remake into a movie IMO. Smile

If this was ever going to get licensed over here, Viz are the most likley candidate.
The reason it hasn't already is because a show of this length that's still on-going would need a TV deal to make any sort of profit from.
Sadly this isn't something that would get one due to the content, cultural references and parodies that would possibily cause copyright issues over here.
It would also be an extremely hard show to dub, unless you took the Shin-chan option and just rewrite to adapt for western audiences.
I'd like to be proved wrong on the matter, but I can't see it happening. Gintama isn't even that popular with fansub downloaders, so I could only imagine how that would translate to R1 DVD sales...

I'm holding out hope for the Haruhi movie

At least lets see for now, if the animation style is still K-on! like I will not watch it.

Yeah. No kidding. I'm not gonna sit through much more of that K-on art style from the Haruhi series and definitely not through a movie.

*mumbles* I know I'll end up watching it anyways. Embarassed
