The only Waldenbooks closing near me was driven out of business by a Barnes and Noble which opened in the same mall. It also drove a large Borders out of business further down the road, and that upset me quite a bit. It was one of the nicest bookstores I've been in, and it had a much better selection of almost everything than Barnes. But ultimately, it had a much less convenient location, which lead to it's demise.

The one in the mall closest to me is closing. It's a small one, but it's decent.

I'm currently in college in a small town in Ohio. We have a nice independent bookstore, which I go to a lot, but their SF/Fantasy section is tiny (half a section of a shelf, the other half of that section is romance.) Their graphic novels section is similarly near-non-existent. Worse actually, the only thing they consistently carry in that section is Fruits Basket.

The Waldenbooks is at least a bit better, they have a full shelf section for manga, and I'm pretty sure they have more SF/F, too. And there's also a Barnes and Noble in that mall.

Really, I'm not surprised they're closing that one. It's pretty small.

My Borders Outlet is staying open, but another a little further away is closing. It helps there isn't another bookstore (at least, not another new bookstore) for miles.

I honestly do not care about that borders outlet in my mall closing... all they have is crap no one wants or popular books I don't care about like twilight. Also, not even one manga there. > . >

Besides, not far form that mall is an awesome borders, so that takes care of that. <3

On the other hand, my grandparents live in the middle of no where in New York, and the one in their tiny mall is closing! That's like, the only place to buy manga, or any other books, for MILES there! Maybe I can ask my cousin to snag me some manga on sale... but now I'm sad. Always buy manga there when I go. DDD:

Oh well it's not like I'm at my grandparents for more then a week now anyways... still... 8P

Wow, one of the locations I used to frequent when I was in my early teens was among the list.

To see one of the two bookstore locations that was the source where I got manga (and other kinds of books) before turning my shelves into a mini-library is sad news.

The news doesn't really affect me plenty. The only Waldenbooks I knew of went out years ago at a mall I went to, replaced by a Borders anyway.

My Waldenbooks already closed last year. I was so upset.

Our mall has no bookstore now. It's depressing. We had a Barnes & Noble on a kind of bad side of town, and it closed.

So now all we have are 2 Books*a*Millions and their manga selections stink. And I don't live in a small town, either. It's really sad.

Thank goodness for Amazon...

It looks like the Borders Express at our local mall is closing (and that place already has several vacant storefronts...jeez), but there's a full-fledged Borders in the shopping center right across the street, and a Barnes & Noble just down the road. I don't think they did a whole lot of business to begin with.
