That sounds like a perfectly sensible reason for delaying a film to me Smile

Yeah. As far as I'm concerned, they can take as long as they like so they can get it just right. This series deserves it.

I'm conscious that there is a fairly fine dividing line between not enough time to tell the story and an over-indulged bloated whale.

I have every confidence that they will get it right - after all, they have perfectly so far - but I think I might just keep my fingers crossed in case...

That's the first time I've ever heard of that happening! Well the mroe the merrier. Considering films cost money to make I doubt they'd invest more money for a considerable longer run time just to bloat it when it'd do just as well without a longer length, must've required some importance to do so...

I'm surprised they thought they could finish the story in only 120 minutes more (~5 episodes). They've barely met half of the Selecao, just for starters! 172 minutes (~8 episodes) sounds like a surer bet.

Thank god!
Two 60 min films would be no where near enough to properly bring closer to the series, and I wouldn't really class them as proper films with an hour or less runtime either.
Got high hopes for these films, and this news brings me hope that they'll deliver.
Just a shame about the wait until we western fans get to see these films.

I can't believe I'm saying this but, I don't really mind them delaying the second film. The more Eden the better...besides, we still have the first film to look forward to. It would suck a lot more if this was announced after The King of Eden came out.

I find it annoying when movies are much under 2 hours. An hour is just pathetic - especially for something showing in the theater. It would have been a royal waste of money to pay to see it in the theater. 82 minutes and 90 minutes are still definitely too short by my book, but they're much better than 60. Movies frequently suffer from not having enough time to tell a proper story, and I think that anime movies are plagued more by this than most. That they're going to make the movies longer can only be good news.

As if it wasn't planned since day one. Typical attention-whore BS move.

Ah, so I see you're on Production I.G.'s staff to know exactly the process that went into this. Rolling Eyes

Really, hour-long movies are unfortunately a real thing in Japan; look at the releases of Kara no Kyoukai. Now, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they did pretty early on realize they'd need more time to tell it and just waited on this issue to get some press, but neither you nor I know whether or not that's true, so don't snark.
