Sakura-gari sounds interesting. I'd love to see it get a release here, but maybe it's "too Japanese"?

Aww, I quite enjoyed Sakura Gari. I wonder how she managed to tie everything up at the end? (Or perhaps she didn't? Sometimes manga just...stop.)

I dunno, there's already quite the market for Watase's stuff over here as well as a huge yaoi fanbase, so I'm kinda surprised we haven't gotten a release yet, to be quite honest...

Viz is the one who releases all of Watase's manga though and they don't publish like any yaoi manga, so that may be why. I don't think they're adverse to it necessarily, they just don't seem to do it.

The magazine was released on January 14th, not January 4th.

so the rumors are true. I've heard back then that Yuu Watase is gonna start again on continuing Fushigi Yuugi Genbu Kaiden at spring 2010 before and i thought that its only a rumor. I'm so glad that she did. It's about god damn time. I'm so excited for the next volume of Genbu Kaiden. Anyone else feels the same way?

So how many volumes did she end Sakura Gari in? Anyone know? I'll be sad to see it go, but even happier that FYGK is coming back!

On another note, did Viz ever give a clear date on when they'll start putting out Arata Kangatari? Or heck, is there even a volume 1 out in Japan yet to even publish? I've been hyped up about it ever since I saw the huge advertisements at last year's comicon. Ugh, I'm such a Yuu Watase fangirl... Embarassed

Sakura Gari ended in 3 volumes. Volume 3 will be released on March 10th.

There are 5 volumes of Arata Kangatari out in Japan.

Viz did publish Yami no Matsuei/Descendants of Darkness, so I think there might be a chance they would pick up Sakura-Gari, especially now that it's over. Though of course it probably depends on how explicit it is. Still, I really hope someone does because Watase Yuu is my absolute favourite mangaka and I would love to have more of her series on my shelf.

I am really excited that Genbu Kaiden is moving forward, especially since I believe she has said that the series will be wrapping up sometime soon. And then hopefully an anime? I can't believe there aren't more Watase anime out there (just the original Fushigi Yuugi and Ayashi no Ceres) but since FY was milked for all it's worth I can't see the new series being passed up once it's been completed.

While it was officially listed for January 14, Watase's website indicated that it shipped early.

So did Sakura Gari actually stay BL? I think the nature of the series itself explains why it didn't go longer; Watase can't seem to handle writing gay characters very well.

Yes, Sakura Gari is Yaoi.

And you're wrong. Yuu Watase had always planned 3 volumes.

Odd. After her treatment of Nuriko I lost any faith I may have had of her ever writing gay characters.

That probably wasn't entirely Watase's fault, but at least partially the fault of the magazine Fushigi Yuugi ran in and the genre conventions of the time. That doesn't make it any better, of course, but it at least partially explains the problem.

Though if you're looking for positive, affirming homosexual relationships, Sakuragari probably isn't going to scratch that itch regardless of who was writing it, since it's more along the lines of a Japanese gothic-suspense series, with all the twisted interpersonal relationships that implies.

I still think it's the best thing she's ever written, and the only thing by her I've chosen to have on my shelves aside from FY: Genbu.

First volume of Arata ships on March 9th, the second on June 8th, and the third on September 14th, past that hasn't official been stated yet. :] And like someone else said up a few posts, there are 5 volumes out in Japan so far.

Viz also published Ookuma which seems to be yaoi.
