"The Bandai NAMCO Group will also enter the live entertainment business with the April establishment of a new company, which is tentatively named Bandai NAMCO Live. The new company will handle events related to Bandai NAMCO Group's toys, games, videos, and music. The video distributor Bandai Visual is footing 51% of the new company's startup capital of 10 million yen (US$110,000), while the anime studio Sunrise is footing the remaining 49%. Shunji Inoue of Bandai NAMCO Group's Lantis music label will head the new company. "

Maybe AX should look into this? Hello? Are you listening?

I just hope they don't stop making the Tales franchise. The idea to essentially "stop" releasing Tales games in the US is going to hurt them in the long run regardless of how little the JRPG market is in the US, especially with the likes of Tales of Vesperia PS3 remake and Tales of Graces

I hope this doesn't end up being like what happened to Sega in 2004. They lost a lot of creativity when groups like Smilebit (Jet Set Radio) and Overworks (Skies of Arcadia) got consolidated. I hope the same doesn't happen to Project Soul or the Tales Studio.

What's interesting is that out of all the big Japanese publishers, Namco is just about the only one that hasn't done a big push towards western-style games. Sega, Square Enix, and Capcom have started either making western-style games themselves, bought out western studios, or both.

Namco's Xbox 360 and PS3 games have all been the same JRPGs, fighting games and flight games they were making on the PS3. That's not saying anything against them though, all of those types of games have actually remained popular with Americans.

Yeah, I'm one of those idiotic gamers who traded in Tales of Vesperia when I heard they were making the complete version on the PS3, only to find out they're not releasing it here. What?! I'm getting the feeling that the JRPG makers are trying to actively push me to stop buying/playing their games, especially with the wealth of good games that has been coming out almost non-stop from every developer that isn't of Japanese origins. Oh well... means I can afford that hundred bucks for the God of War 3 Ultimate Edition.

As long as this doesn't mean that we suddenly stop seeing Gundam (and a long list of things) I guess I won't be too scared. Though after re-reading the article a few times from the sound of it Sunrise is doing okay since they can afford to cough up capital to help start up this new branch. Still tough break for fans of Namco Bandai's games if the jobs that get cut end up being some of their best men and women.

Holy cow, 630 people lost their jobs just like that. Hopefully, they are able to find new work, because some of the workers have families.

Its a shame really, but the economy isn't like it was years ago. But this is bad for the people who lost their jobs (obviously) and the gamers.

I wonder if Bandai Entertainment (the anime company) is doing any better than this though? Lucky Star didn't exactly roll in the revenue.

Depends on their skill set. If they're really only fit for work in the anime industry, I think they might be in for a very long job search.

While the US is just starting to really get a taste of recession, the Japanese have been in one for a while now. Plus their population is in decline. It's pretty problematic all around over there.

One poor seller can't kill a company. What worries me with Bandai is the thought of the Japanese just pulling out of the market over here.

Considering the recent decision on how to release Gundam Unicorn, I think it's a real possibility. It's not like Bandai Visual hasn't pulled out before.
