So is this just the DPJ trying to take the public's mind off the fact they can't fix the Japanese economy like the people who swept them into power believed?

Damn, I just posted before the new news. Well, this shows how freedom minded the DPJ is. They are so much better than the Liberal Democratic Party, who are nothing but a bunch of fascist conservative bastards. Thats why the LDP went to the trouble of banning child pornography sales but not banning drawings. Because they are fascist bastards.

The above is sarcasm.

+9001!!!

For once Japanese actually banded together and fought for their freedom of expression (they did nothing for eroge bans). Had this bill been passed it would outlaw any ecchi, anything from nudity to pantyshots of anyone who sounds or looks under 18 (bye bye any high-school anime). That would kill Anime as we know it. In 1930 in US bill was passed that limited certain images in comics... (Comics Code Authority enforcements (not bill) is what I meant... why did I think of 1930 is beyond me) American comics as a culture did not win from that. The mistake should not be repeated.

Its a good news that bill was pushed, but we can't feel safe yet.

Damn, it didn't go as planned - they are actually making a fuss about this bill in the media! Let's postpone the vote until June and hope that everyone has forgotten about it by then.

Wow. Just wow. Not that I support loli, but it's all just fiction right? When are they gonna worry about real children getting raped?

What bill was that? as far as I know no bill was ever passed that limited images in comics. all I know of are of self regulating bodies like the Association of Comics Magazine Publishers and the Comics Code Authority. Or am I missing some thing.

The bill isn't specifically about loli stuff or even specifically about porn. It's about any character that looks as if they might be under 18 and is portrayed in a "sexually provocative way." I don't understand why ANN insists on repeatedly characterizing this as a bill about "virtual child porn" when that's clearly not what it is.

That's good. Something as major and potentially landmark as this deserves some more deliberation before a decision is made. Although, I still think that something should be passed concerning it.

Two victories for freedom of expression and the vox populi, on two sides of the Pacific, in one week? Rock on otoko

Never since virtual non-existant children are much much more important then real children. Also it makes them seem like they're doing something so it makes them look good.

If you only knew how much this will affect all anime and manga, you wouldn't spout such nonsense.

This isn't about loli or even perverted stuff anymore, this will hurt the legitimacy of story telling and creativity to every mangaka out there.

NO ONE will be safe, even WSJ titles will be affected, you can say goodbye to EVERY single romance comedy ever made!!!

Right here in ANN the #1 rated anime is Clannad After Story, under this bill, Clannad AS would have NEVER happened. All the girls in Clannad would have been seen as "underage in physical features, and in speech", and since Clannad AS had sex involved, they would have taken it down.

This is a harmful bill that must be destroyed.
