In the picture of Soukyuu no Fafner: Dead Aggressor: Heaven and Earth, the guy on the bottom looks like Athrun Zala from Gundam Seed sort of.

That's because all of Hisashi Hirai's characters are quite same-y.

Understatement of the decade.

Is anyone actually still interested in Fafner? I didn't get the impression that it made a strong impact when it came out, so I'm surprised they're making a movie of it after all this time.

It did in Japan, especially coming off right after Gundam Seed and before Gundam Seed Destiny. In the US, on the other hand...word essentially never got out about it.
In other words, Fafner was epic and underappreciated.

One reacts to the news of Milky Holmes with both curiosity and trepidation. The title seemingly applies a significant degree of artistic license to a cultural institution, but does so in a manner that is charmingly characteristic of a certain niche. Mileages will undoubtedly vary.

From the picture and vague description, I gather that Milky Holmes will be some sort of mystery meets Sailor Moon thing, with a color-coded team of heroic girls (who may or may not be magical) solving crimes with the power of love and friendship.

This sounds both terrible and awesome at the same time.

Well, I don't know about either of those, but I do think I know why the show never found a wide audience overseas; the opening episode is one of the most confusing (and just plain awful) episodes I have ever had the misfortune to watch. I've been told the show gets better (although it would have been almost impossible for it to have gotten worse), but you can't blame people for avoiding the rest of the episodes like the plague. And really, when a show - whether justifiably or not - gets labelled an "Eva Clone", it had better hook viewers fast or face a poor showing among many circles.
