You guys better watch this, now that it's being streamed. Oh Edo Rocket is one of the most underrated shows of the last few years. The premise seems meh, but it's extremely clever in it's execution.

Actually, I was wondering about what's good about this series... Is it strictly for laughs, does it merge laughs cleverly with sweet character byplay(a la Gintama), or is it a both: A comedy AND a drama.

I've been curious about this series for a long time, so can someone enlighten me? Please?

It's more comedy than drama. Just like Gintama, a lot of the humor revolves around anachronisms, and breaking the 4th wall. This show has way higher production quality, though.

Surprisingly for a comedy, it does have a pretty dark plot in it. A good bit of death too.

But still funny!

It also has quite a bit of historical veracity despite the anachronisms. I pulled my old Asian history books off the shelf to read up on the 1837 Osaka riots that the show depicts. To answer Otaking09's question, it's primarily a comedy, but there are many dramatic moments as well. It's also quite political, for an anime, with an emphasis on freedom of expression and opposition to arbitrary government.

Oh! Edo Rocket remains one of the most inventive anime shows I've ever watched. It won't be everyone's cup of tea, but if you enjoy satire and have an open mind, this could be the show for you. The absence of programs like this from contemporary anime schedules is the reason I'm watching a lot fewer shows nowadays.

Oh man, almost forgot this was licensed, must re-watch! Or do I want to wait and rent it on DVD, with higher video quality? or both? Choices choices.

Thanks guys. So it's worth watching, looks a bit better than Gintama, the jokes are a bit more "serious" than Gintama, but it's fun, original, and intelligent.
Sounds kinda like Zetsubou-sensei... Cool

Wow, this is really good. From just the first episode alone, I can tell this is going to be a good one. I'm totally adding this to my "must complete" list.

Hmm, I seem to be having a problem with watching Episode 2. I hear audio but I get no visual.

I can't replicate your problem. Try reloading. If that doesn't work, try LQ mode.
