I hope that later on, we DO get insight into Toriko and his buddies. From what I've read so far, it feels pretty episodic and formulaic, though a lot more fun than it should sound if I ever tried to describe it in any way.

I'm going to guess that Toriko's life goal menu is not going to be easy. So far, he seems to effortlessly tear through anything in his way. Hopefully, we'll get to see him grow increasingly strained, since that'll make him more interesting of a character.

After all, who wants to read a series of comics about Superman eating?

I must say, this is one of the few SJ manga that I have next to no interest in.

The only others I can think of are I's and Pretty Face.

Toriko gets into longer arcs and less episodic as it goes on. Also his name is Komatsu not Tomatsu.

Yes. It's always worth remembering that most early arcs of a new SJ title are something of a proof of concept rather than what the strip will end up as once it finds its footing.
