This is definitely a watch once a move on show for me. Although, I suppose it doesn't help that Hellsing pretty much defined what I want from a vampire story and nothing else quite cuts it.

FYI, the Dance in the Vampire Bund Manga was only released three months before Black Blood Brothers began airing. While this show is undoubtedly and irrefutably just a patchwork from other, seemingly better shows, I don't think there is as much of a connection between it and Dance in the Vampire Bund as with the others.

If it weren't for the digital animation, you'd be forgiven for thinking that Black Blood Brothers was animated in the 90's.

Y'know, I love this show, but I never realized that! Now that I stop to think about it, you're absolutely right. I wonder if that's one of the reasons why I like it so much... Anyway, I need to get around to watching those commentary tracks, they sound fun.

And this came out long before District 9, while we're at it. This is a re-release. Not, mind you, that it got mounds of praise from reviewers the first time around, which is why I never picked it up. But research is good.

Good review, but besides the point of how this came out well before Dance in the Vampire Bund and District 9(though the point Carl makes is still valid.)...this whole recurring riff on series, specifically FMA, that are supposedly "too deliberate" at nailing the proper elemnts of amazing storytelling always leaves me tilting my head. I've heard this sentiment from Carl and Carlo both and they always completely fail to make this quibble make even the remotest bit of sense. FMA was too good?....at being good? Que?

It's barely related, I know, but it always bugs me. I just don't get where it's coming from or what it's supposed to mean. Is it an issue of the direction and pacing seeming too mechanical despite the amazing story, because I could think of much better examples to lob that accusation against, like, say, Moribito(in adition to that shows bevy of other problems.)
