What great news. Smile I really loved this film, and can't wait for the American release to watch it again in theaters!

Great to hear! I went to see this in theaters about a month ago- it's definitely one of my favorite Ghibli films. (So much better than Ponyo.) Hopefully it will get a release overseas soon!

I guess this means they won't be closing up shop just yet then. Wink

With over 100 million dollars in earnings so far? Shocked Yeah, I'd say not quite yet.

Just to give me some perspective on the $110 Million box office draw, how much money do American movies rake in these days?

Anything over US$100 million is considered a hit.

So happy that this directorial debut has been so successful. Could this be one of the torches to carry the flame after the old guard retire/pass on?

Really cool news. This movie deserved it. I've seen it 3 times myself, each time with a different set of people, and everyone's loved it. Unlike some, I think Ponyo is a really well made movie, but Arrietty went beyond Ponyo and certainly Earthsea to become my favorite Ghibli film of the past 9 years or so.

It's like the Pixar effect - whoever gets to direct becomes a hit.

For a movie I've seen literally no discussions about until now, it's done pretty well.
