Was it a cerebral hemorrhage? That's what killed my father earlier this year (after having suffered a mild stroke one month prior from which he had been recovering remarkably well).

He was a heavy smoker too; lung cancer isn't the only way cigarettes can get you.

Basically, it's bleeding in the brain.

That's why Japan needs more smoking restrictions. It's bad for you and the only ones who'd deny it are idiot addicts with pathetic weak nerves.

Ouch! Hope he'll be all right! I and many others grew up with Pokemon, and it would be a shame to lose such a brilliant contributor to our youth.

I agree, I read about Japan's nasty smoking habit. They really need to control the smoking over there seriously. As a matter of fact, It's one of the biggest health issue in Japan.

Also, I first heard about this on Kotaku before reading it here on ANN. I hope the surgery does so well. My hearts goes out to the family.

Somehow I think 665 episodes in, everyone knows the formula for a Pokemon episode by now.

R.I.P. Ask John had a good write-up of the show a few months ago.

Crying or Very sad This man created my childhood.
I watched only the dub, but he still took part of Pokemon by writing the scripts. It was popular enough to be brought to the US and thus, this man built part of my childhood.
R.I.P Takeshi Shudo. Writer of one of the best shows from my childhood. (Granted I still like pokemon...)
Man...

Yet another tragic loss. This has been commonplace for the anime industry as of late. Condolences to his family and friends.

well......I am extremely sad now.
it almost feels cliche by now to say that I'm sorry for his family's loss, but I just dont know what else to say so....
I'm sorry for Mr. Takeshi Shudo's family's loss, because I know I'll miss him.

I'm off to watch some Minky Momo now, anyone want to join me?

What a horrible loss.
I remember (when I was smaller), I actually went out of my way to figure out who the real creators and writers behind Pokemon were.
I'm also (probably) one of the very few people in the US whom has actually seen snippits from his other major work, Minky Momo. (If you've seen it too, give a holler!)
Tis a tragedy indeed....he wrote the story for the first 3 Pokemon films too....my 3 favorite ones....
RIP Masatoshi Tahara, you will be missed.
