I'm sorry, Carl. I have to strongly disagree with you on this one.

Not only were the last few eps a great way to re-evaluate what was important, it was (literally!)allowing the characters to see how far they've come, what's important to them(as people), and doing it all in the spectrum of the show's universe.

I mean, it's rare enough to have characters look around and take in the effects of their adventures, but it's even RARER for them to do it... with their same style!

Maybe I love the fact that Oh! Edo Rocket decided to do things in an abrupt, flippy, unpredictable way. I mean who didn't shed some tears during spoiler[Akai and Blue Girl's final moments?] It was a wonderful decision to make that part serious.
Not to mention I thought the last episodes events about spoiler[Sekichi and Sora deciding to use the rocket for the "right" reason], was also a sweet, endearing way to close it.

Maybe giving a C+ fits the content of the story itself, but that does NOT represent the novelty and boldness to do what it did, how it did it, and where it went.
It's anime craftsmanship at it's finest.

I think back and remember instantly giving this show a "Masterpiece" rating. Even looking at your points Carl, I can't change my mind.
Great review all the same though!

EDIT: Oh! And the 2nd closer was better IMO!

Okay, I loved this series and... yes, you're right, its coda dragged on too long. I remember this from when I watched it; there are a number of sort of disconnected episodes tying up loose ends from subplots that kept the big rocket-launch side-splitter from coming when it ought to.

Not that these episodes were bad, it's just that they felt more like the DVD-only extras you sometimes get that wrap side-stories up once the main plot is over... only they come in before the main plot is over! Which means that the first time through, you might want to skip several of these episodes and watch them after you see the finale.

Mind you, I'd have to re-watch this series to remember precisely which episodes those were, but, well, I do plan to rewatch this one.

Am in agreement with Otaking09, but at the same time it seems that Carl was merely stressing finding something negative to point out about this series, without so much as criticizing the last 6 episodes' existence. I for one felt like the story had more to tell , so it didn't feel anticlimactic at all. Like Carl said, a part of me just didn't want it to end, but it had a most fitting ending. Oh! Edo Rocket was a true character comedy, where everyone was charming and likeable, and the serious moments had a unique impact here than they normally would in a regular drama. It's true that the dub actors had a lot of fun with this series, which made it equally fun to listen to. The inside-humor surrounding a discussion between the two main characters about a different Funimation-licensed series the dub actors did was particularly clever in my opinion. Great series, here's wishing more people know about it!
