Good review. If Toradora was a fancy steak dinner, I would rate this one as a tuna fish sandwich. Probably won't get any raves, but a nice friendly light meal with the added bonus of some Taoist/Shinto magic to keep it tasty.

Hit the nail on the head. Laughing In retrospect, I'm really not sure what caused me to give Fox Deity a chance when it was airing. 2008 was a massive year for anime for me in general, so perhaps it was just carried forward by the momentum of the thirteen or fourteen other shows I watched in the Spring season.

The rest of the review holds just as true, though. The premise and the characters managed to endear themselves to me enough that I never really felt the urge to drop out. Asexual Ku was definitely pretty... kuul.

Diversion is certainly the buzzword though. I can remember very little in the way of the show's specific developments; all I've got left at this point is an overall feeling that it wasn't bad.[/code]

I wasn't too impressed with it at first, but if it refrains from doing any of the above, I might be willing to give it a second chance.

Ku's avowed asexuality turns out to be quite real. While for the purposes of clarity she's been assigned the female pronoun, is equally comfortable in male or female guise, and equally comfortable seducing policemen or flocks of teen girls.

This bit of attention to actual Japanese folklore makes me feel that this title is one to which I will take a closer look. Hopefully NIS will make some streams available on ANN like they did with Persona and Toradora. Those streams resulted in sales from me, BTW...
