It would be nice for a US release, but I read on a forum that they are not going to localize anymore Tales of games I hope this is just a rumor and even if it isn't I'll just import it most likely when someone puts up a english walkthrough guide or something. Smile

I understand the need/want of the Tales games for US release. It has been disappointing that Namco Bandai has seemingly been neglecting the Tales series in the states. If you look, there have been 4 games that haven't heard word of release in the US. Tales of Vesperia PS3 port, Tales of Vs. for the PS3, Tales of Graces for the Wii, Tales of Graces F for the PS3, and I think Radiant Mythology 3 is coming out soon in Japan. There is a handful of games that Bandai Namco could release here, but they are struggling with their decisions and games being published in the US specifically. They can target the niche anime crowd in Japan and still push out units, but in the states it is much harder to do that. Especially with the sale failures of Maijin and the Forsaken Kingdom, Splatterhouse, and Enslaved Odyssey. I think Namco Bandai needs to get their act together before they decide to ship out potentially low sellers here in the US, when games that target a wider audience aren't even doing that well.

I agree though, this is very exciting news. I hope to see a release in the US or I'll have to just import it and enjoy what I can.

*sigh* Tales of games. What a sorrowful example of a franchise ruined by incomprehensibly dumb business decisions. I'm not even going to tease myself with the idea that this would get a proper western release.

If we read the same thing it was an actual interview, not a rumor.

The Tales games take a lot to localize - they need all the skits translated as well as the normal dialouge, and the voice acting requires payment too. These wind up taking a lot of time to work on, and in the long run wind up not really being worth how long it takes to get them out. It's easier for J-RPGs like the ones Atlus, Xseed and Nis release because they don't use as much voice acting, and most are on portables and are cheaper.

I can't blame people for getting annoyed, but it really can't be helped. Atlus, Sony and Xseed offered helping out with the translation and production on seperate occasions, but Namco-Bandai (US) denied all of them.

And not gonna lie, the games are a bit cliche and most of the plots are reused... but that's my opinion.

They MIGHT localize this on the basis that it doesn't have other ports, but I have low expectations. Namco has been making very stupid business decisions as of late, choosing stuff that won't sell like Enslaved and various shovelware series besides their normal hit sellers while ignoring the whole Tales fanbase. It really pisses me off, especially since I heard Graces was good.

I've been a massive Tales fan for years and I've been following the new releases closely for just as long. Honestly, I've lost all hope that any more Tales games will make it NA, especially considering the poor financial state of Namdai and the Tales Studio itself. Of course, since I've been importing Tales games for the last year and a half, I really don't give a damn whether it comes here or not. Suggest anybody who wants to play any more new Tales games also import as I do.

Anyway, this is pretty weird news, since Production I.G. has always taken on this job before, and--for the most part--I think they've done well. But hell, I'm open to something new. I'm also both excited and wary of the fact that Inomata and Fujishima are gonna work together on these designs--don't think this is gonna end well. Should at least be good for a few laughs, though.

Now all I've gotta do is get a PS3(and, at that, Graces F). Laughing

Anybody who knows anything about the series knows that the main attraction is the battle system. Besides, some Tales games have good stories, such as Rebirth.

I love the Tales games the best out of the big 3 long running franchises (FF, DQ, Tales) but truth be told they always had the lowest potential specifically because they cater to people familiar with anime storytelling. Final Fantasy has always had a more western approach to its graphics, character and storytelling and DQ has a smaller but decent niche of admirers of old-school console RPGs.

I'm not sure that heavy marketing would ever have pushed Tales beyond the niche realm of RPGs.

The console Personas had a lot of voice acting, especially Persona 4. The Mana Khemia games off the top of my head also had a lot of voice acting. But if you're talking about today, yeah, they've pretty much moved on to portables so everyone who loved the production values of the PS2 era console JRPGs should treasure them because we likely won't see them handled the same way again. However I think that you're right in that ultimately the Tales games are probably more expensive to license than the ones that Atlus and NIS get so the profit isn't worth as the time spent on it , whereas the Shin Megami Tensei and Gust games are made by smaller companies that don't cost as much to license.

Have you all forgotten that Namco Bandai recently laid off a ton of employees? Localizing a small-seller (for the States) like a Tales game is probably not their top priority now. I want more Tales games, don't get me wrong, but criticizing NB right now is a bit unreasonable.

Also, Tales games cliche? You do realize they're well known for deploying the http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DeconstructorFleet, right?

*Sigh*doctordoom85..I wish that was something people would think about,it actually does pop into my head when I manage to come across more. "Oh more Tales of Announcements!..Oh but don't expect it to come here cause Namco sucks." Posts..I mean how much have we really heard as far as release dates in announcements for games by game companys?..Kinda feels like since info and "Leaks" have gotten easier to come by.(Thanks of course to more websites and ah..Twitter I suppose..)People have gotten a little..Unreasonable for some time now..

*Gasp* OH MY GOD!! Really, hardcore fans of anime manga, and Japanese video games being unreasonable towards companies just because they don't get exactly what they want and how they want it all the time?! How shocking, this is breaking news!

Yeah, this to me isn't any different from any other militant complaint about wanting to consume a product. I would definitely want Tales of Xillia and also want Tales of Graces to arrive to the states, but if Namco Bandai for some reason can't get the game here (and they're most likely valid reasons) then they can't get it here, period.

90, to be exact. I'm well aware of that, which is part of the reason that I lost hope for the series in America long ago. Agian, I don't give a damn either way, since I import.

They don't want to release their games and don't want others to release their games for them. Strategy = do nothing. Zero sympathy points from me. Ok, I'll wait 10 years and play a fan translation if it's ever to happen.
