Well, the effect is more obvious in some places than others, but it is kind of neat.

Besides, even if it's just a 3D re-release, at least there's more "Ghost in the Shell." Though hopefully we'll get something new soon.

EDIT: Oh, seeing it on fullscreen messes up the effect. *Watches smaller version* Yep, much better.

I'd rather see a new season of SAC than looking at them do stuff in 3-d, the format most people don't have tv's or monitors made for.

So this is the rumored new GitS? Ach, that's disappointing. SSS is pretty good, but I'd much rather have 3rd Gig. Oh well, let's just hope that this does well enough for them to go for the third season.

You know after looking at it both ways, the smaller scale does preserve the 3D effect for the characters a little bit better, but I still think the trailer looks better when in full screen or just detached for 720p.

Amazing work, Production I.G., Amazing work!

With SSS already on bluray, I cant see that this is meant for a home release at all. They are promoting it considerably hard in more mainstream media (even got a tiny mention in this weeks entertainment weekly) - Id say they intend to make their money back from the theatrical run. If it does well enough, possibly a rerelease on blu. I very much doubt that a successful run would have any influence on a possible 3rd season. The money just isnt there anymore since the US market has become so unreliable. If 3rd GIG is ever made I think it would have more to do with whether or not Eden of the East makes them money outside of Japan.

I am the only one that stupidly put on my Theater 3D glasses to see this trailer to then figure out that they won't work on Youtube 3D VIDEO!

But I sure do feel like making a stereoscopic 3D glasses. Very Happy

I'm not about to go all handicrafts to make my own pair of 3D glasses, but to someone who has, how does this effect actually work? I mean, I understand 3D for things like live-action and CGI, where the original has some innate sense of depth...but animation cels are completely 2D in nature. Did Production I.G. go in and simulate different levels of depth for each part of the character?

Wow... I used the side-by-side option with my 3DTV and watched the trailer in 1080p. That is pretty impressive stuff. If this comes stateside anywhere near me, I'll definitely check it out. Domestic 3D Blu-Ray release would be even better. I have yet to actually finish 2nd Gig or watch the SSS movie.

The 3D effect turned out better than I thought, even on an old tube monitor in the usual small window and using one of the pairs of glasses that came with Coraline. Knowing Kenji Kamiyama's attention to detail and Production I.G.'s quality work, I suspect the film would look great on the appropriate equipment (theatre or otherwise). Being a big fan of GiTS, I, too, am hoping that sufficient interest in the SSS 3D release will result in a third season of SAC. I'd also love to see a blu-ray release of both seasons of SAC with at least the 5.1 DTS dub that the LE DVDs came out with. With the recent announcements of SSS 3D, I've now got a strong urge to re-watch the SAC DVDs again.

Do the red and blue lens glasses work for this? I still have a pair.

Options include three flavors of colored glasses: red/cyan, green/magenta, and blue/yellow. So try it and see if any are a good fit for your pair. Using the side-by-side option, crossing my eyes, and masking the remaining images with my hands, I see what looks like the background is a true 3-D CGI rendering, and the drawn characters as being flat at chosen distances. (My eyes also get sore: I should try cutting out a paper mask, and watch this at a longer distance than my usual one or two feet to the computer monitor.)
