I wonder how many of these will actually be used for the Boys' Festival.

"The 300-year-old Tokyo-based Yoshitoku doll company is offering Darth Vader musha ningyō (armored samurai dolls) for the Boys' Festival/Children's Day holiday, which is held on May 5.

Yoshitoku is accepting preorders for the 30 limited-edition Star Wars dolls from May 9 to June 10. "

They aren't selling them until after 4 days after the Boys' Festival is over, so I'd think none of them are going to be used for the festival.

People can order them now for use in future years.

Oh how I wished I had the money to buy one.

Anyone know if these are officially licensed? Because Lucasfilm is kind of infamous for protecting their licenses from this kind of stuff otherwise... and if these were officially licensed I'd want one all the more.

A Darth Vader... Samurai?

I seem to recall seeing a cosplay pic based on the same concept, but I can't remember where.

A Darth Vader Samurai is one of those concepts that's so odd and insane it's incredibly awesome at the same time.

When it's that expensive (about US$1,690), ya betcha it's licensed. Laughing

They just forgot to place the traditional samurai haircut on the top of the helmet.

I'm a casual fan of Star Wars but I think that is a simply GORGEOUS item. They really put a lot of effort and detail into it. If I could blow $1600 on myself, I'd do it. *claps* Nice job!

I could have one of these. With there only being 30 limited edition dolls I wonder if any will make it outside of Japan though.

Oh, I want one of these so bad, but there's no way I can afford it. Maybe they will make a cheaper, although slightly less cool, mass market version in the future. Even at $100 I'd get one.

So might I, for figures (especially of that size & detail) $100 dollars would be an astonishingly low price. Most pre-orders for new (smaller & less detailed) PVC figures I've seen on the internet are in excess of 100 bucks. I wish they were cheaper, personally. Ideally cheaper & retaining the same level of "coolness", but that's a pipe dream. I'm not the stereotypical "Type/Moon Fan" who prides himself on buying expensive items of fandom, uses them as a "status symbol", and as such fights against the notion of cheaper merchandise. I'm just a fan who wants to show support to great series, with no ulterior motive of flaunting my wallet to the "plebeian fans". Wink

If a parent blows that much money on a good luck charm for a kid's future, that kid had better become successful. If he became a NEET, he'd be getting force choked.

As I recall it, Darth Vader was loaded with Japanese allusions, so this is almost like his intended form, in a sense.
