Or to put it another way: there's no difference between US and UK BD releases* (unless you do something monumentally stupid like region-locking), so why wait months for the discs to be released officially in the UK when you can get them for the same price or less from the US, as long as you pick somewhere without outrageous shipping fees? Half the time, the physical discs will be from the exact same stamp (maybe even with the same silkscreen) and merely re-cased, and the other half the discs are the same apart from having an additional logo in the opening sequence of unskippable logos.
*No PAL/NTSC disparity as with DVDs, which because of IVTC lazyness/cheapness, often makes the R1 release more attractive anyway. |

Will probbly buy the blu ray at some point to support the industry but after been stung before on blu ray series releases i will probbly hand on a little before buying into the series.
Shame its ages away anyway

This is the reason I will almost always go for a R1 NTSC DVD over the PAL release any day. Unfortunately I have no plans to go BD any time soon so the removal of this issue with BD isn't a factor. I will never understand why companies insist on doing all these tricks to make the DVD output exactly the field pattern needed when it's unneccessary - DVD players are supposed to be able to do this on-the fly, and even if your TV doesn't support the NTSC or 24p signal you can still force PAL output. That, and you really need a new TV if this is the case. |

Once again they plead with the english market to buy local to support the british anime industry and then release the blu ray in a years time. fudge off manga I'll get my bluray from America thanks very much.

I guess that it can't be helped, but the anime market isn't going to expand in the UK if one of the very few publishers stop producing anime in the best format. This is what drives people to go and download or import series. I always buy Blu Ray where I can simply because I wan't to experience the show at it's best. There is such a difference between DVD an Blu Ray and it makes a show even better with the high def sound and clean, crisp animation.
As long as K-On! gets a Blu Ray release at some point I will be happy, but after nearly buying the first 2 FMA Brotherhood volumes on Blu Ray I was glad I was delayed in buying them when I found out they were stopping the Blu Ray volume releases. My mate bought them, and now his collection is out of sorts and he will have double the episodes if he decided to wait and get the rest of the series when it is released in full. |

The main problem is that if a US Blu-ray release is region free, or region A+B, then people are going to import as;
A - It's cheaper B - They can get their hands on the release quicker The main problem with the UK market is that it takes too long to release stuff over here. They aren't too bad with movies, but with series, they are pretty slow. No one wants to wait around, and no one wants to pay more either. If they can sort out these problems, then Blu-ray releases in the UK will become alot more rewarding for companies like Manga UK. Saying that, they can't really moan about Casshern Sins. Did they really think a show like that could bring in good sales figures? They need to stick with stuff like HOTD, which are no brainers for sales. |
