oh Im diggin the new song, but I must admit as soon as I heard it was changin I went out and bought the single for "Each one Feel it" on itunes

to bad Summer Wars didn't get a nomination, thanks for giving it your best Funimation.

Im sorry to admit but I dont realy like the Anime classic brand since none of the anime in that brand are even over 10 years old, but whatever I guess Daughters of Nimassity is just as much a classic as Puss N Boots. I know its stupid to complain about it since its just a marketing idea for succesful shows from a few years agoe but...yeah.

I havn't seen Princess Jellyfish but I like the director so I will be buying that when it comes out,

great episode, digging the theme song, good stuff as always

Oho, hearing CAPTALIA get mentioned made me grin like an idiot. Anime hyper

This whole interview made me smile. Like it says, it's clearly obvious she cares about her work. I had a high respect for her for how she handled Summer Wars, Hetalia, and Eden of the East, and this made that respect shoot up about 500%.

I can't wait for PSG. Very Happy

Denton Texas? I had a friend in grad school from Denton. He lost a toe roughnecking in a West Texas oilfield. Can't imagine him wearing a pink bandanna, but.

Nice how she brings up Excel Saga as being a "Classic" because FUNi purposely went after it, and naturally ignored all of the ADV/Sojitz titles they ended up getting, which most (if not all) went to S.A.V.E. Even if it isn't the case, nice way to indirectly give the idea that FUNi really didn't want any of those Sojitz titles, Charlene.

And regardless of how they do via their re-releases, there is still going to be the stigma that Anime Classics will be the re-release line for titles that did well and S.A.V.E. will be the re-release line for titles that didn't do well; the actual overall quality of the titles won't necessarily line-up with a lot of fans in the end. For example, is Big Windup!, which is intensely beloved by many, really not an "Anime Classic"? Regardless, it's an announced bomb of a release and now has a S.A.V.E. re-release... Coincedence?

But since she brought up how every show will get a re-release via either line, there's going to be the overall idea that all of us can now tell which titles sold well and which titles bombed solely by seeing what re-release line each title goes to. Again, though, this ends up being simply speculation since this is obviously the kind of stuff people from FUNimation can't go into detail about. But, Zac did ask "Who gets to decide what an 'anime classic' is anyway?", and the easy answer is the anime fans. You don't want a title you like to end up on S.A.V.E.? Then buy it and get your friends to buy it, and try to convince other anime fans to buy it.

But, really, what does it matter in the end? People buy S.A.V.E. because they are cheap. And who knows what these sales could end up doing... Maybe one day a title will bomb, effectively killing the chances of any potential sequel/continuation being licensed by FUNi, and it gets a S.A.V.E. re-release. The re-release ends up selling extremely well... So well, in fact, that FUNi might actually consider licensing the sequel/continuation that they once passed over. Doubly so if some years have passed since the original release and the license for the sequel/continuation has gone down in price. Yeah, it's unlikely but you honestly never can tell.

As for the question regarding older animes Charlene could have easily answered that question but instead went for the convoluted response that answered nothing. What would have Lance said? That's easy: Those shows are probably too old to sell well with a dub, and therefore we probably wouldn't go after them. Lance isn't afraid to be blunt at time, Charlene, so you don't have to be timid. Your answer to that question was the equivalent of Lance answering the question about Big Windup! Season 2 by saying "Well, we'll look at how the title has done, consider if it was able to recoup the costs of the dub, and if it did well enough then we might go after it, depending on all of those factors." Instead, Lance said this pretty much: "No. The first season bombed, so we won't be going after the second season." Hell, he even added in that FUNimation might not ever license another sports anime because of that show's bombing.

I hate those long, vague, "business-like" answers that don't actually anything. I'd rather hear "I can't talk about that right now/I Can Neither Confirm Nor Deny/etc." than hear those annoyingly vague non-answers.

Good god. You sure do seem to have worked yourself into quite a fervor over a brand label.

What? Yu Yu Hakusho, Blue Gender, FLCL, Noir and Excel Saga beg to differ. And I will bet you that Tenchi Muyo and Lain end up being ACs as well. You can also probably throw in Texhnolyze, Haibane Renmei and Hellsing in that pot, too, even though they aren't quite 10 years old yet. But if you want to argue Samurai Champloo and the other shows I mentioned aren't classics because they're "not old enough", be my guest.

I love when Charlene's on the show, she just sounds so happy and positive about the work she does ^^ I don't think there was a single negative thing about this weeks show (that I could really hear anyway)

What fervor? It just simply came out like that, but all in all I was simply saying that her answer did nothing to dispel the general idea people have that one label is for titles that sold well (Anime Classics) and the other label is for titles that bombed (S.A.V.E.). I just went into more detail. Charlene certainly said a lot more but explained less when she talked about it.

And only about half of that post was about the brand labels, with the other half being about her non-answer regarding older anime.

NSFW Language Warning: This episode has more swearing in it than probably any other we've done. Cover your virgin ears.

I think you printed the warning from last week again by mistake, ANN. In fact, I haven't finished listening to the podcast yet, but I have so far not heard a single swear word that I can recall.

She is moe because she makes me feel moe over her moeness. So, instead of saying something that sounds really creepy like "Charlene makes me feel so moe that my moe meter has erupted and burst into a huge flaming moe fire that makes K-ON look like a spark when you clap two rocks together", I just said she herself was moe.

I bet you're regretting asking that question right about now, aren't ya? Or do you have any moe questions? Anime exclamation
