I wish I could go see him, he's one of my favorite directors. I can't wait till they announce (THEY BETTER ANNOUNCE!!!!) the release of Hoshi o Ou Kodomo in the United States.

I hope someone at ANN could interview this director. Seriously.

So glad I'm going, his panel is definitely one I don't want to miss. Be cool if his new movie debuted at Otakon.

Well, this is something of a coup. It almost makes me want to go to Otakon. I can't really afford it and I probably wouldn't be satisfied with most of the experience, but still, Makoto Shinkai. That's pretty cool.

An interview would be swell.

I really want to see his new anime. I liked Voices of a Distant Star and The Place Promised in Our Early Days a lot.

5 Centimeters Per Second was an abysmal.

I hope that ANN gets ample time on interview too. It's just that people who do podcast(excluding ANN) are not doing their homework and wind up asking lame questions.

I wish ANN the best of luck.

I'm hoping I like the man more than his work. Though I feel that his Stars show got a pass due to the circumstances of its creation & Place Promised likewise was viewed through rose colored glasses based on the hype of the former, I would appreciate an interview. To know the man behind the work would be a boon, for then I could ascertain if the man is full of brilliance that has simply been maligned by poor execution, or if he has risen to prominence astride disappointing merit.

A nagging question of mine. Very Happy I get the feeling that I'm one of the few that doesn't view the man as a god, or at least the "next Miyazaki". Insight to help me evaluate the merit of my views will be most appreciated, especially when it comes directly from the man himself, instead of through the muddled middleman that is his work.

On a related note, I'm glad that Otakon is finally able to commence disclosure of its guest list. I can understand the delay with the Japanese guests, and find it remarkable that their attendance is undaunted. However, it has not been sufficiently explained why Otakon has been remiss in releasing its list of American VAs Sad

They've been on the website for a while now.

Johnny Yong Bosch
Tony Oliver
Lisa Ortiz
Tom Wayland

Probably others to come as well, no fun in giving out the entire list all at once, best to spread it out and keep people interested.

They've only been on the website a few scant weeks. If you wanted to pre-reg at the lower price, you had to do so with no guests announced, save for Chemistry. Later on they added Oliver, Ortiz, & Wayland. They may have been on the tail end of the discount pre-reg period, but I do not believe so. Johnny Yong Bosch definitely was not.

Also, that "probably" had better not come to pass, not unless Otakon brings in a beaucoup of Japanese seiyuu to make up for such a paltry offering of American guests. Their forums suggest that there will be several more VAs, including guests from last year (which haven't been announced yet), but I'm not holding my breath.

Other cons release their guest list months in advance, certainly more than what, 4 weeks in advance (at most)? The pre-reg cutoff date is the 16th of July. If all of the English guests are not released by then, I cry foul as Otakon would then be exploiting its fame to force its attendees to gamble. I'd be hard pressed to see it any other way. Additionally, I've been to cons which posted guests in the final week leading up to them, and in the case of one even had to do a last minute guest replacement, which was a scheduling nightmare. Otakon is already a perpetual logistical horror, I dread it growing worse. Late guest announcements do not bode well to that end. There's also no reason that the 2nd largest con on the continent should be shown up in any regard by much smaller cons, yet it is happening on this front.

Hopefully they'll make a big deal out of Makoto Shinkai, as I remember hearing woeful tales of other Japanese directors at Otakon receiving little fanfare and having sparse attendance at their panels. Lamentable, even though I was one of those people in remiss on attendance.

This news almost makes me want to go to Otakon, even though I stopped going to anime cons around 2003. Also, Otakon is within driving distance for me. Absolutely loved 5cm Per Second.
