Not to be disrespectful to the dead or anything, but...

Why are we all making such a big deal out of a voice actress who did nothing but unnamed and background roles?

I mean, its sad she died... but a memorial fund? Theres plenty of people out there that die that are more well known that don't get them... it just seems kinda.. extreme.

I'm also curious as to how she passed--nothing seems to mention it so far. It seems like if it had been an accident or illness it would have been released with the media notification, which makes me think the worst Confused

Since I'm not a mod, I hope I'm not overstepping my bounds by posting the following:

There's been discussion about Cassandra Hodges' passing in this forum thread

You might learn some more information by reading that other thread.

She was apart of Funimation, she was friends with the other voice actors, she was set for public appearances, people looked forward to seeing her to at these events; it could've been only 1 person but what Im saying is that there are many people who cared about her.

~and besides she was really young for her age to die, she didn't even get to live half her life and experience things she wanted too. I'm pretty sure your family, friends and loved ones would've done the same if you died a horrible death at a young age.

EDIT- And yea, that's discussion thread about her death is an example of all this.

Because she was not only a working voice actress - albeit not a famous one - but she was also friends with a great many Texas voice actors and industry people who want to help support her family during this tragedy.

Here's a tip when posting in a thread like this: nobody cares if you don't care about this or don't think the deceased is somehow "worthy" of your time or interest or support. Especially not me, so I'll be removing posts like that, because they add nothing whatsoever to the thread. Okay? Okay.

What is a "memorial fund"?

A memorial fund is normally for the person who passed away. You would set up the memorial fund in their name and it could be used for several different reasons. One could be for the deceased's favorite charity. They may have wanted money to be donated to their favorite charity. Another reason for a memorial fund could be that the deceased's family may have not have had much money, and so the fund is to help the family survive after losing someone who may have been the primary source of income. A memorial fund can also be to help defray the cost of the funeral itself.

The friends, family, and Funimation co-workers of deceased voice actress Cassandra Hodges need money are seeking help from fans to subsidize funeral costs. Why? Because that is what a memorial fund is more.

And.... things like burial plots, grave stones/head markers and coffins are quite expensive. Plots can cost $1000 or more.

I think people forget, but funerals, even small ones, cost a lot of money. My dad recently passed away and unless you've handled one yourself, you don't realize how much stress it is to plan and pay for a funeral while feeling sad about the passing of a loved one.

I once asked a friend why Cassi was a guest at her convention with so little uncredited work. Her answer "because people love her".

A few months later I met Cassi for the first time at a friend's birthday party, and came away from it a little bit in love with her. That's just how she was.

I don't think I've heard or recognized her voice in an anime yet. It never mattered to me, but just getting to be things like "Cat", "Rabbit", "Mouse", "Guinea pig" and "Chicken" in Hetalia was a great source of joy to her.

In this case an extreme need existed. Her mother had no money for a funeral. And sufficient funds were raised to have that funeral. It was a lovely service and I thank everyone who chose to help to make it happen.

That's a relief. I'd been wondering if enough would be/was raised since I saw the announcement of the fund over the ACML.
