Well there isn't enough material in the manga to make a whole other season and with this there'll be a ongoing story to adapt from.

I don't have a problem with this.

SO lemme see if I understand correctly what I just read:

We're getting a spin off instead of a true sequel of where the original anime left off?

That's how I'm understanding it anyway...

Oh well, hope this does well for the true sequel to come around a few years from now.

Then again, I first saw Index and thought to myself "Damn this is pretty good stuff, not bad at all."

Then I watched Railgun which I took as a spin-off from Index and thought... "Whoa, this is better than Index"

Then went back to Index season 2... and ended up missing Railgun >o<

Who knows, maybe I'll like the spin-off more than the original Saki storyline. and If I don't, but they still do a good job on it, then at bare minimum we'll have more Saki Mahjong goodness in two forms going back to back and that is never a bad thing Very Happy

I'm still wondering if Studio Gonzo will animate this series or not, as they did a pretty good job on the first one, until they handed off to Picture Magic where around the episode 20 where the facial features felt kind of... off?

In any case, glad to see more Saki anime, even if it's a spinoff.

I'll give it a shot but this does make me sad. I want a continuation from the first series.

Hmm, an interesting development. I had heard that the manga was going quite slowly, but I didn't realise it still wasn't far along enough, even after two years... o_o;;;

Since I haven't read this spin-off, I wonder how much of it there is. Enough for one or two cours perhaps?

I am slightly disappointed (seeing as I wanted to see spoiler[the national tournament with Saki and her older sister]), but as long as I get to see a bit more epic mahjong, it should still be be cool methinks... ^_^;;;

O-O~

There are very few purchase guarantees I offer when it comes to series, but Saki was one of them.

Yes, past tense. No way will my money go to funding a spin-off when I'm eagerly awaiting a continuation. This was a beautiful hidden gem and to see it treated this way is just insulting.

I get it won't draw in huge numbers, but this should have been obvious before the first line was applied to computer.

Baka.

If I hadn't read a bit of Achiga's story, I definitely would be toally disappointed. The manga offers lots of promising plot developments so I will hope that they don't screw that shit up for now. But still I would have rather wanted a continuation of where the series left off mainly because I loved those older characters.

What are you talking about? The manga started in August. There can only be 2-3 chapters around now. And when this anime starts, there'll only be 8-9 chapters to animate since, like Saki, it's serialized in a monthly magazine.

That's not nearly enough for a 12-13 episode series.

Give me my original Saki please? Hopefully this side story will eventually lead to more 2009 Saki releases. They really need to release another season of that.
