At this point, I suspect One Piece isn't just the highest-selling manga ever, but the highest-selling comic ever.

Well, in the first half of 2011, One Piece sold 23,366,030 million volumes. In 2010, the entire American comic industry sold roughly 69,000,0000 million copies (though the way comics are sold, this is only the amount sold to stores, whether all of those issues actually sold to people is another thing entirely) When you factor in Japan is 1/3rd the size of America.. it'd ratio out to be One Piece outselling the entire American comic industry in a year with only half a year's worth of sales. So yeah, that's a pretty safe bet. (Then again, comics come out monthly here.. while only 2 new volumes of One Piece were released in the time-frame from when these statistics were taken Also volumes are a lot more expensive than comics are. I'm sure that factors in somehow but I just wanted to make a rough comparison) |

It will probably take 2 to 3 years to sold those 4 million copies, but at least the first 3 million will be sold out in 3 months or so.
The cover suggest/hinted that Jimbie is one of the strawhat now, hahahaha cooool. |

I don't think it will take, the crew seems sort of cemented at 9 what with the whole separation arc thing. Don't get me wrong, Jimbie's a fun character, but I think his involvement is going to be more mentor-figure-doomed-to-die-for-hero's-sake then full on joining the crew. But hey, I've been wrong before. Are my eyes deceiving me or are there two Robins on the cover? (Stopped reading the scans after all the Straw hat reunion, volume 61 thereabouts, and probably just going to just follow the Viz releases now, so I don't know what's up with that.) I'm glad it's getting such recognition over in Japan (and is starting to hit the bestseller lists over here, yay). And hey congrats to Oda, this is undoubtedly one of my favorite shonen battle series, and I will continue to collect every volume that's published in America. And if he wants to continue this series past the 100 volume mark (which he will definitely hit) and even past the 150 volume mark (which I have suspicious he will), then I say: Bring it, my wallet will just have to deal with it. |

In Japan, most likely since mangas leave very little place for american or european made comic books. In the world, not at all. Dragon Ball but also Tintin and Asterix have sold over 350 million copies, And then, leagues above everything thing else, you have the Classics Illustrated which reached the billion mark before Oda was even born.

Well, I'd personally question the inclusion of newspaper comic strips like Tintin and stuff being compared to a serialized story, but even then. One Piece premiered in 1997 and has already sold 240 million volumes in Japan alone. Tintin premiered in 1929. Give One Piece the 80+ years western comics have and I'm sure it'll catch up. Make no mistake, If genius Oda makes so much money is because of the crazy amount One Piece sells.
The real profits, almost all of them go to the publisher that is the one getting FILTHY STUPIDLY AND UNFAIRLY RICH.....sure a corporation risks money on creators' work but the percentage the real creator gets its ridiculous, so no, they are not getting filthy ruch unless their work gets crazy popularity, so this can only be achieved by the likes of Oda, Akira Toriyama and a very few others. |

I'm actualy talking about the Tintin or Asterix albums, not the comic strips published in newspapers. In the case of Tintin, for example, 24 albums were sold at around 350 millions copies (that's 14.6 million per album, and it's still increasing). But comics like Tintin are generally in colour so they take more time to make and are more expensive. Also, the copies sold/year ratio isn't really fair either since an old series which has ended is obviously going to have a lower ratio than an ongoing 'recent' series. |

You're implying that the 80 year sales lead and global sales numbers are not in favor of Tintin just because OP is a recent series. But the differences and advantages were not enough for you not to mix apples and oranges by saying who you think would've sold more. Maybe the comparison should never been made. |

I did not make the comparison. I corrected a statement about One Piece being the highest selling comic ever. Manga, yes, comic, no. 
European/american comics and mangas' production and prices are so different that they really can't be compared. However, sales are still sales. |
