So, I guess Kimi to Boku is the best anime this season so far.

Glad to see a decent review on Kimi to Boku for once, since it seems to have gotten slammed in all the columns up till now. It's not my favorite anime of the season but I still find myself excited to see it every week. My only complaint is that these boys are waaaay too laid back. It was a little painful sometimes until Chizuru came and added some energy to the show.

A review that uses some form of 'complicated' five times within about two paragraphs to describe this series. Definitely not what I was expecting for a Cute Boys Doing Cute Things show. Also no mention of cats. Which is strange, cause everything else that I've read on this show does.

Finally, a positive review of Kimi to Boku!!!
I adore this show simply because it's sweet and not trying to market anything at you. I'll agree that it's an unrealistic portrayal of teen boys but it's so soft and cuddly that I can't resist. Like those cats that keeping popping on screen! 
It also keeps me busy while waiting for Season 4 of Natsume's Book of Friends~ |

Ah yes, the cats. I mean, never underestimate the cat-loving demographic. But really, it is a sign that the writers lack faith in the plot and characters to hold up the audience's interest so they resorted to showing cats a half-dozen (or more) times per episode. It is weak storytelling and so obvious what they're trying to do. Here's a thought. Instead of wasting time and my patience with the cats, how about they actually knuckle down and come up with a show that is more fun than watching paint dry? 'Cause at the moment, I know what I'd choose. |

lol, I think you simply weren't conscious of its marketing of soft, cuddly teen boys and cats, much like how Natsume markets itself to fujoshi 
(which is not a criticism or a bad thing at all, just that everyone is ultimately trying to sell you something) |

Spot on review which pretty much says whatever I felt.
And what I don't get is why people are up in arms about the cats. I barely started noticing them when someone mentioned that the show showcased cats. They're hardly distracting and people don't seem to understand that most of the time the cats are used as little punctuation points between two jokes or gags. Nichijou and Minami-ke used their own versions. Why showcasing some pin-up shots of cats is bad storytelling is beyond me when its not even worth mentioning. Anyway, really awesome review Carl. I do like this show for the reason just mentioned. I like this show because it knows what it wants to do, and it executes it very well. sure it is unrealistic, but it still a good time and is sweet and makes me fell better, sure they are to laid back, but there a LOT worse things that 80% of anime do in my opinion |

I'll happily add that I'm glad to see Kimi to Boku getting a positive review. I believe that too many people are too quick to dismiss it. And granted, its not a show for everyone, but neither is a lot of anime, or TV in general. I think many people don't like it because it doesn't have a lot going on, besides the dynamic between the male friends (and the occasional female). But that's the thing: Kimi to Boku did not promise that it would be anything other than a show about friends. Not that I'm saying its the best show EVER, but it has its good points. Namely, I enjoy the humor, (however dry it may be), and the gradual character development. I especially enjoyed the summer festival episode, when Chizuru tries to win over Masaki. It was cute and sweet, and shed some light on how their relationship might grow. Anyway, I will continue to follow it, cats and all.

My only gripe with this show actually does happen to be the cats. There are some damn fugly cats in those eyecatches, and they sometimes interrupt the flair of mild I can experience watching this show

Kimi to Boku is one of my favorite shows of the season. Carl did a great job voicing why.

I am also still watching this show, though I can totally understand why many people don't. I almost dropped it, but didn't because I enjoy the understated, "dry" and ironic dialog. It would have been more suited to a college setting, since I've never met a high school kid who has mastered that kind of humor.

Thank you, Carl! You took the words right out of my mouth. :) Kimi to Boku fills that weekly need for a dose of safe, gentle, hopeful warm-fuzziness that I appreciated (and will again when season four begins--woohoo!) from Natsume's Book of Friends. Sometimes I want action and drama and scares and romance, and sometimes I just want to be Linus and cuddle up with my blanket.
BTW, I love the cats. As another commenter said, they're really just visual punctuation marks that reflect and add to the understated personality of the show. And they make me smile. |
