The real question, though, is if I should cancel my order for the Japanese BD which is going to be shipping in a few days. Comix Wave have been pricks when it comes to releasing Shinkai work on BD outside of Asia; Manga UK has been trying to release 5 cm/s on BD for over a year. So even if it is licensed, there's not a lot of hope for a BD.

Yeah. I should have the Blu-ray in my hands next week. Amazon should ship it on Thursday or Friday. ^_^ It's been hard to wait, and I hope that none of the issues that the new 5cm/sec BD has contaminate the release of the new movie... |

I saw this at NYAF; while I didn't think it was a great film (one-trick-pony Shinkai doing his thing again, a lot of borrowing from Miyazaki) it iwn't bad, and it is a great-looking film. I would strongly consider buying a reasonably-priced Blu-Ray release.
Any bets as to who got it? ADV originally licensed his other filmes (though Crunchyroll/Bandai now has 5 Centimetres per Second) so I wonder if it might be Sentai Filmworks. |

I'm expecting ADV again, but that thought isn't based upon anything other than ancient history... CR seems doubtful for a disc release. If it's Funi, will we see it on disc before 2013? ^^; |

I ain't. The LE I ordered looks pretty sweet. Besides, as you say, who even knows if a BD will ever be released in NA. If one is, it probably won't be for a while. @OldCharlie:
That comment was so off-base it literally made me burst out laughing. You may hate or love Shinkai and you may hate or love Miyazaki but the one thing you could never do is mistake one for the other. Now I understand that this one is Ghibli-influenced, but none of Shinkai's other works even came close to reminding me of Miyazaki.  Too funny.

So after picking up summer wars Funi picked this up, I am guessing, they are one of the two and the more likely one since S23 still does not pick up any major anime movies. and funi said summer wars was a huge success for them.

Considering how lately Sentai has been releasing Comix Wave stuff, I would be surprised if it wasn't them who got the license.

Well, this title will be leaving the encyclopedia's Most Underrated Anime list soon... Just like I thought it would sooner or later.
As for licensed it, I'll say that it's either Sentai (most likely choice) or FUNimation. |

Not really surprised over here, since Shinkai gets snapped up here pretty quick. I suspect Bandai probably picked it up, didn't they co-op 5 Centimeters Per Second with Crunchyroll?

Yaaaaay!!! I think Sentai got it since they released most of Shinkai and Comix Wave's works lately. But still, I'm happy!...as long as they give it a dub (and I PRAY that they leave Mana's voice alone!!!).

I think you misunderstood my post. The comma in the parentheses was meant to indicate two separate thoughts. I wasn't saying that Shinkai has been borrowing from Miyazaki all along, just in his latest. The reference to "doing his thing" has to do with all his works being about unrequited or doomed love. Sorry if that was not clear. |
