Sapporo is where Crypton Future Media's HQ is. I suspect that even in Japanese the synth voice isn't clear enough to use for basic speech tone common information purposes hense pressing Saki into service. I wonder if she feels that her career has reached its zenith from singer/voice actress to announcing the rail timetables on the trains, however, having said that, Miku singing " This is the local service to Muroran. The next stop is Sopporo Station" in Japanese would be interesting just to see the passenger reactions. Laughing

Actually, synthesized voices are used all the time for PA systems in Japan, but it's not Vocaloid voices because those are designed for singing, not for talking.
The professional ones designed for talking are pretty damn close to a real person doing those sorts of PA announcements and you hear them on buses, some trains, and a ton of other places.
Usually you have to sit and listen carefully before you can realize it's not a human voice recording.
